Long story wasnt my fault but locked up wheels today in rain and hit a kerb at 60mph, went to set off again and steering wheel is voilently shaking and juddering at any speed.

Not at work until tuesday now but need to use car before then, im thinking that track rod or wishbone is fooked, any other ideas of what damage is??

The clutch pedal seemed to go very light for 2 gear shifts then fine after that no idea what happened there.

alloy sort of hit kerb side on grinded against kerb for a while then forced itself onto the kerb all while wheels wer locked up.

thanks for any ideas of damage will check it out proply at work tmoz

If your lucky, the wheel is buckled. A damaged trackrod or wishbone wouldn't cause violent shaking, maybe a light judder and a pull on the steering.

However i would definatly have the wishbone, trackrod end, wheel bearing and rack checked. At that speed there could easily be damage to these components, and its not the sort of thing you just want to cross your fingers and hope for the best with.

make sure the bearings aren't damaged, else probably a buckled wheel.

il check it over proply at work on tuesday now, yeh i dont wanna risk driving too much with it like this as summat might happen, the alloy suprisingly isnt buckled still has its true shape but has massive chucks cut outta the rim and has cuts all over the spokes, im thinkin thats the wheel balance gone lol

bearing may have had it tbh i can hear llike a slight knock when drivin especially round corners, tracking defo needs doin if you look at the wheels from front on you can see it is toe'in in pretty bad now.

The shaking has gone less now, i just drove to top of street and back not as bad as yestaday but still enough for me to worry lol

ave u checked ur suspension?? i remember i did this on my old Clio and the top of the suspension had buckled so it was shaking violently

suspensions fine, coil spring is fine and damper and its all in line not bckled or bent at all, it just looks like trackrod end and wichbone for now.

And also noticed that the arch liner has been ripped of and is scraping on the wheel, thats was the scrapin/knockin noise not a bearing gone.

off topic but help me source a cheap pair of headlights with fogs :D

probably still buckled, even if you can't tell by eye or even when the wheels off the car.

I done it to mine in snow, was quite bad to start with, but I kept using it on short journeys and it got better after a while, think it unbuckled itself with the contant knocking.

Easy way to tell put a different wheel on and see if the problem goes away.

If you've had chunks come off the wheel itself, it'll be out of balance which could be enough to cause knocking through the steering, put the wheel on a spindle and check out a vid on youtube on how to balance it using those stick on weights, while you're on it, line a tool up close to the edge of the rim, turn the wheel and look for deviation from the tool tip to the rim. Cheapest way of checking for a buckle.

yh alloy was bent i got a second hand one exact same as mine from a mate that only has one slight kerb mark on it put it on the car and the steerin doesnt shake anymore:p

but track rod is defo still gone and needs replacing aswel well as wishbone.

but im still hearing a scraping noise wen i turn full lock to the right from passenger side (damaged side) what is this.

it sounds a lot like a piece of metal scraping against another metal maybe summat against the disc???

only on the very full lock to the right.

right i replaced trackrod end and wishbone now found that the suspension shocker is bent outwards and that is causing the scrapin on full lock to the right.

soo looks like i need a new shocker aswel now lol

I hit a kerb at less than 10mph (not in a Punto) and needed a complete set of suspension on that side and a new CV joint. The chassis was checked on a jig.

A 60 mph impact with the kerb will have bent all sorts of stuff. The vibrating wheel shows its had a hefty whack enough to bend the wheel and/or the drive shaft. The car shouldn't be driven and might be dangerous.

A body repair shop will replace the suspension and then check the body alignment and if possible pull it back to shape. A slightly bend component cant be easily seen, so it cant be done safely with the original parts. Anything less is dangerous.

You can expect to need a new strut, wishbone, rod end, wheel and wheel bearing. You might also need a new driveshaft outer CV joint and hopefully the body structure is not bent.

When its done get the body rustproofed internally as the original treatment has probably cracked. Unprotected metal rusts-out PDQ.

If it does have to be pulled straight, when its done get the body rustproofed internally as the original treatment has probably cracked. Unprotected metal rusts-out PDQ.

yeah i was probably doing no more then 20mph and loads of stuff got messed up

all sorted, new alloy (sorted vibrating/shaking), new trackrod and widshbone (sorted the steering pullin bad), new shocker put in no scraping noise took it to a bodyshop checked the alignment of the sub frame and other panels(cant remember correct names lol) said was fine no structure damage at all, done tracking went on test drive on motorway at 70 mph seems fine no noise, no scraping no shakin or pullin

i thinks i fixed it got another 2 mechanics to look at it and they said its fine now cant find anything else wrong:D
