Hi all,

Hope you are all safe and well. I just wondered if anyone had ever upgraded from steel wheels to factory alloys and if the same wheel bolts can be used?

Thank you

Hi :)

The SAFEST method..

Get the 2 loose wheels off car in front of you

Steel wheel : push the bolt into wheel

MEASURE the thread poking out ( that would screw into hub)

Alloy : same again.. ideally within 4 mm of the steel.. BUT the alloys will need more metal 'sandwiched ' between bolt head and hub

Personally.. if you are losing
more than 5 mm.. I would get longer bolts

There are more issues.. the wheel SHOULD sit snug on the hubs 'centering ring'
Thus taking load off the bolts..

But measuring the thickness robbed from steel to alloy is the best 1st step :)

They should be the same size because a car with alloy's uses the same space saver spare tyre as steel wheel cars and you don't need alternative bolts to use the space saver

Best to double check regardless
