That's why southerners make the best lovers. We don't mind going down but not fond of taking it up North.

At this point it appears TAFI needs a nappy. Look in yellow pages under "Sheep shearers" and see if he cn rustle one up for ya...

He-He.

re:re:re:re:Whats this?

Tom had a word with fiat over the phone .
thay says it's a for engine idle ?...as it's fly by wire.

Re: re:re:re:re:Whats this?

Did Fiat say if it is supposed to move, when the car starts or revs?

Re: re:re:re:re:Whats this?

It can't be as I moved it by hand and the engine did not change rev.

If it was to do with idle it would hace wires going to it and it don't.

I'll take a trip tomorrow lunchtime to my local Fiat and borrow their computer.

Re: Re: re:re:re:re:Whats this?

Yep. Had a look at mine and it stays in the same position with engine on or off and if you move it it has no effect on the revs.

inlet variator

The 155HGT is equiped with variable valve timing and variable inlet manifold geomtry, this is the actuator for the inlet manifold.
At low revs the air flow is directed along a short inlet tract to improve low end torque and at high revs it opens the longer inlet tract to improve performance and pick up, or it may be the other way around.

Re: Re: inlet variator

Nope. Have only tried it while idling, not revved. Will try it tonight to see what happens.

Re: Re: Re: inlet variator

Right, according to Fiat its an 'electro valve'. Len was not in so I got the new guy who ain't quite up on Fiat things and kept trying to look up an Alfa 155 rather than an HGT155. Duh!

Their thing did not show how the valve worked but its certainly the inlet manifold actuator.

That valve about half way along intop of the manifold is supposedly some sort of air injection for emissions. As that can be unscrewed it might be worth giving it a clean.

His opinion was clogged throttle body or blocked injector. Now a new throttle is £370+vat or £270+vat for a recon. :) It might be worth taking the hoses off and having a look and make sure the throttle butterfly moves smoothly.

Not really an answer but some things to be going on with. Maybe try jamming that lever down and taking the car for a spin. The electro valve is only £70.

Re: Re: Re: Re: inlet variator

Ok. I've had another look and revved the car to 4500rpm, then blipped the throttle and it still doesn't move. Car runs like a dream so can't think that Daz's not moving is the prob with his car.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: inlet variator

Just blipping the throttle and driving are two different things. It takes very little to get the engine to freerun to 4.5k.

It must move sometime! Its just odd that Daz's runs so badly at low RPM.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: inlet variator

Well I'm fekked if I'm gonna take my windscreen out and the bonnet off then drive down the A1M at 130mph while hanging over the steering wheel just to check that.

Sorry guys. Evil Keneivel I aint!

:)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: inlet variator

Hehe!! there are easier ways :) Open the bonnet and lean out of the drivers window?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: inlet variator

I should have said but contortionist I aint either.

What revs are you looking at? If my housemate ever comes back I could try again.

Let me know m8. Really wanna sort this out for Daz as there's nothing worse than having your car run like a bag o' spanners and no-one can fix it.

Shabash!

Thanks

I'd just like to say thanks to everyone who is trying to sort my problem out.

I have been a member of a few forums like this one, but no other group of people have helped out the way you lot have, i really do appreciate it.

I am hoping that Fiat hurry up and get thier diagnostic machine back from the fixing shop soon, 'cos TAFI has arranged with one of his mates that works there to test it free of charge.

It may not pick anything up and they have already diagnosed it as the 'Lambda' sensor (without even looking at or hearing the car), but as you all have said, i will be very suprised if its that, but it may pick something, up who knows.

I was really hopeing to get it sorted out fairly quick as i am supposed to be going to the Weston Wheels show with TAFI, and up to the Nottingham meet, but if the car is not sorted, i dont really want to risk all those unnecessary miles. :(

Anyway thanks again for all your help.

Daz
