It can't be as I moved it by hand and the engine did not change rev.
If it was to do with idle it would hace wires going to it and it don't.
I'll take a trip tomorrow lunchtime to my local Fiat and borrow their computer.

Yep. Had a look at mine and it stays in the same position with engine on or off and if you move it it has no effect on the revs.

inlet variator
The 155HGT is equiped with variable valve timing and variable inlet manifold geomtry, this is the actuator for the inlet manifold.
At low revs the air flow is directed along a short inlet tract to improve low end torque and at high revs it opens the longer inlet tract to improve performance and pick up, or it may be the other way around.

Right, according to Fiat its an 'electro valve'. Len was not in so I got the new guy who ain't quite up on Fiat things and kept trying to look up an Alfa 155 rather than an HGT155. Duh!
Their thing did not show how the valve worked but its certainly the inlet manifold actuator.
That valve about half way along intop of the manifold is supposedly some sort of air injection for emissions. As that can be unscrewed it might be worth giving it a clean.
His opinion was clogged throttle body or blocked injector. Now a new throttle is £370+vat or £270+vat for a recon. It might be worth taking the hoses off and having a look and make sure the throttle butterfly moves smoothly.
Not really an answer but some things to be going on with. Maybe try jamming that lever down and taking the car for a spin. The electro valve is only £70.

Ok. I've had another look and revved the car to 4500rpm, then blipped the throttle and it still doesn't move. Car runs like a dream so can't think that Daz's not moving is the prob with his car.

Just blipping the throttle and driving are two different things. It takes very little to get the engine to freerun to 4.5k.
It must move sometime! Its just odd that Daz's runs so badly at low RPM.

Well I'm fekked if I'm gonna take my windscreen out and the bonnet off then drive down the A1M at 130mph while hanging over the steering wheel just to check that.

I'd just like to say thanks to everyone who is trying to sort my problem out.
I have been a member of a few forums like this one, but no other group of people have helped out the way you lot have, i really do appreciate it.
I am hoping that Fiat hurry up and get thier diagnostic machine back from the fixing shop soon, 'cos TAFI has arranged with one of his mates that works there to test it free of charge.
It may not pick anything up and they have already diagnosed it as the 'Lambda' sensor (without even looking at or hearing the car), but as you all have said, i will be very suprised if its that, but it may pick something, up who knows.
I was really hopeing to get it sorted out fairly quick as i am supposed to be going to the Weston Wheels show with TAFI, and up to the Nottingham meet, but if the car is not sorted, i dont really want to risk all those unnecessary miles.
