Technical What’s this sensor?

Hello, what is this sensor for and is it really needed? It broke doing assembling.

The needle can easily be moved

Looks like a coolant sensor given that it has one connector and is brass. Would be useful to know what engine and year your vehicle is to confirm this.

Correction: It is a solenoid of some sorts. Have found a supplier selling something similar.

Looks like a fuel overrun shutoff solenoid. (cuts fuel into the carb progression holes when car is decelerating with no throttle pedal depression).

However knowing the exact car model, year and engine cc would help
