Can someone tell me what signs i should look out for (if any) to tell whether my cam belt is failing?

Yep, when mine went on my Tipo, no warning at all, just died Luckiliy was only going about 5mph at the time, so no big bang, and minimal damage done, so the repair bill was only about £600

Hi guys, just to butt in;
Is there anyway of visually checking? Or any kind of non-destructive testing without having to whip the whole engine out? (That would be in ref. to my HGT)

well u can't see much anyway on the hgt cambelt only the writing on the side of the belt. some belts u can see the wear and tear on the rubber. but cause the engine bay is so packed u can't see ****

Well, there's only one thing to say to that... Big hairy balls! Thats the one damn thing that really gets to me about the car. For such an inexpensive item, it can fcuk the whole engine up. Except the inexpensive item becomes VERY expensive when it comes to changing the thing! (labour etc.) Even bigger hairy balls.

As the guys have said there is
no way of telling, if you've
done over 50-60K its recommended
that u change if it hasn't
previously been done as this is
much much cheaper than waiting
till it goes bang - believe me;
i work in a garage and some guy
lied when we recommended a change
that he'd already done it - trying
to save the pennies! idiot turned
up 2 weeks later needing £1500
worth of engine repair!!

so the rule is after 50/60k on the
clock or so just get it done or
you'll regret it! its not worth
the hassle!
