hmmmm

i see

don't like the look of her but seems the cheapest option found so far.

Re: hmmmm

hey, I never said she was a looker.

It's inexpensive, although the HonestJohn website stresses that cambelt changes must have been as per manual, otherwise problemos.

You thought about a Bora v5 at all?
Quite grunty and lowish prices because of lack of looks. Should be a solid car however.
BUT it's German so it will be soul-less.

Get an ALFA 155 or 156, or if you find one, a 75, last of the rear wheel drive Alfa's.
Howabout a Thema THEMA 8.32? Ok, so it's a v8 - only two more than your original request.

Arent Vectras quite thirsty?

Nope, I find that im getting around 30-31 to the gallon which is a mix of backroads, motorways and town driving. Its pretty good...Id even say almost as good as my 1.8 bravo was. If you're on a long run then you can ge 35ish or if driving hard on backroads it will drop to 25 but overall it averages at about the 30 mark. It also sounds gorgeous. Heres a pic of the supertouring:

Im missing the italian car feel but its a really capable car and I think that as standard, the chassis is definitely than that on the 156.

Well well well

Skoda it is then lol

Been looking and what i have to pay for what i get etc....actually insurance cost worries really.

Probably will go for Skoda Fabia VRS and get it tuned upto 175bhp (http://www.starperformance.co.uk/skoda.htm for example)

its insurnance group 9 @ 130bhp (0-60 in 8.7)and it ouzes low/mid range torque, don't really go round "racing people" as theres far too many speed restritions/speed bumps in hull. Like the "pulled back into the chair affect" on cars.

As its a VW then it should have (well does have according to parkers) better build quality so when i get in a year or cough cough 2's time it won't have all the niggles that take the edge off my 1.8hlx.....having said that, it aint as good looking as my bottle nose dolphin bravo....

Do you have to declare the tuning mod?, not from a legally perpective (course you would have to) but from a "can they find out" perspective

Re: Well well well

it depends what kinda tuning you can get some remaps reversed for not much for mot's and the such so i don't see how they would find out or be able to prove that you'd done anything to it,but most other things such as ind, exh are fairly obvious. cams i don't know?

Re: Well well well

I think he's realise you can go much faster in a four cylinder turbocharged car with 20 valves. lol.

V6's much petrol like there's no tomorrow...

Re: Well well well

Does that Skoda have 20 valves? I thought it would just be a 16valve Diesel with a turbo?

Re: Well well well

Mazda mx-3 can get from as cheap as one or two hundred up to 2 or 3 grand and when done up tastefully with postert bumper looks stunning.

Probably gonna get slated for this but if you use your imagination and look closely with that bumper looks slightly like shape of a Vantage (Old style) lol.

Re: Well well well

Imagination - what HAVE you been smoking?

i want a million pounds

i want a million pounds but unfortuantely real life, ie a mortgage gets in the way.

wanted v6 for the sound mostly but after seeing how much they cost to insure and how much petrol they drink i went against it.

tuning wise it would be all standard kit, the only mod would be the ecu re-programming which is what i assume is what they "tune" wouldn't be getting induction kits and exhausts etc so how would this put me instead with the insurance company and them finding out?

also, on here http://www.starperformance.co.uk/skoda.htm

it says something about its got "switchable engine management software"

Re: i want a million pounds

If youre looking at the skodas, a forum a mate of mine uses (he has the Octavia VRS) is www.briskoda.net. He has had his chipped to 225 brake and is seriously rapid. The deisel fabias are bloody quick too in gear, especially once tweaked. I think his octy has had the map from the 225bhp Audi TT engine on it as opposed to the 180bhp map thats standard.

Re: i want a million pounds

they cant really detect modded software, ie a remap. provided everything else was fairly standard, there'd be no problem, as they wouldn't be looking at you as a tuner. esp since diesel isn't all that popular with speed freaks. daft buggers ;)

Re: i want a million pounds

The 1.8T engines in the Skoda's and VW's etc are all 20 Valves I think.

5 Valves per cylinder. That almost sounds as bad as the 3 valves per cylinder 1.4 Bravo!

lol.

yep

the Octavia is a 20 valve, star also do a couple more tuning options but I guess you have seen that from there web site. I just got my vRS estate and cant wait till im past the 1000 mile mark to see hoe it goes, I have also asked Nige what he charges for a similar job

Cheers
