Oh definitely

Apparently this company has a deal with landrover, all Companies wanting to do business in China have to work with a Chinese company.

This company works with landrover and is under the false understanding that they are somehow landrover.

The car landrover used had something like 400+ hp

They use a safety tether on the car to stop it destroying everything if it failed, the Chinese car also had a safety tether which they claim failed causing the accident. My money is on the chineese company trying to pull the car up the stairs using the tether which then all went wrong, because otherwise how/why would a tether with no load on it fail midway through the climb and cause the accident

Watching the video to me it seemed they went too fast at it got the wheels in the air, lost forward momentum at which point it just smoked tyres and gravity demonstrated some fundamental principles.

You can see the safety rope in this video.. ripping bits off.

Wandering round winterising the cars.

There's been an edge on it last few days but it's 8 degrees now...meant to be 4 tomorrow and between 1 and 4 for the rest of the week with snow forecast for Tuesday Wednesday and Friday.

Chances of actual snow probably low but tyre pressures have been over inflated by 1 (they were all down 1psi) so by the time it's one degree they'll be about right. Screen wash strength is strong enough that you could store it in the freezer like Vodka.. although probably tastes slightly worse.

To be fair it's more likely to be god awful drizzle...but to fail to prepare is to prepare to fail and all that.

Snow was keen it's already been over today... although not lying. Also despite blowing blowing all the tyres up 2psi...they were down half a psi which shows how much the temperature has dropped.

Had 5 mins so checked they were right..not quite but sorted.

No snow here down at sea level, but the shed has got a white roof and the cars all have frozen windscreens. Brilliant sunny day though, without a cloud visible from horizon to horizon. Going to go a nice long walk today, probably through the Botanic Gardens back through Stockbridge and along the Water of Leith walkway. You remind me though that it's been a while since I checked both cars for tyre pressures, washer fluid, oil levels, etc. Been too busy keeping the lawyers happy and trying to find an illusive leak - a very small one - which is causing my youngest boy's combi boiler to depressurise and stop working every two or 3 days. We looked for it last year and eventually resorted to putting a leak sealer in it. That worked well but now it's started doing it again. GRRRRRR!

If it makes it any better, viewed a house today Two leaking radiators boiler on with a low pressure warning.

Our own does lose pressure over time but more like months than days. Certainly doing far better than it has it right to given the piping was originally done for a gravity fed back boiler set up.

Bad weather passed over during the school run it got out nice though it's forecast for the evening.

Met office warning:

The amber alert, which covers the North East, North West, Yorkshire and the Humber, came into effect at 12pm today and will stay in place until 8am on Saturday

It was a harsh frost this morning but ‘my’ (phones) weather app says, today dry, then rain, dry, rain, rain, rain for following days.

Met office ALWAYS get it wrong for the Pennines!

Typically I spotted the grand old tractor overlooking the valley months ago..and thought as a nice thing when I was out on a weekly run would take the same photo of it and I'd end up with a nice record of the seasons going past.

Then they finished the horsekhana pad to the right which is why the tractor had been moved from it's original position...and the muck heap also got moved 🤣

Bit of smiling and a bit of grumping so thought this thread would be best?

Brilliant day when I got up with not a cloud from horizon to horizon. Had some breakfast and sorted out the dishwasher then went for a decent walk. Up the Ferry road first to the pharmacy to hand in repeat prescriptions and pick up stuff for Mrs J. Approaching the pharmacy there are lots of blue lights reflecting in the shop windows. As I round the corner there are two Motorcycle Police with their lights going, who have stopped a Deliveroo chap on a quite large electric scooter. My guess, from the positioning, would be he's come round the corner from Ferry Road on the pavement, most likely to avoid the traffic lights, and been unfortunate enough to run into the two Cops waiting for the lights on their bikes. One had his notebook out while the other was looking on. They were still there when I came back out of the Pharmacy. To be honest, electric scooters and bikes - bikes of all sorts actually - are becoming a very real hazard here and I'd be very happy to learn they'd confiscated the scooter. Privately owned electric scooters, as I understand it, are illegal to use in public places anyway?

Having collected the prescription I walked up the road a bit and onto the old railway walkway/cycle path to get home. Just before I left the road there was quite a tailback of traffic queueing and I saw a young lady in a large SUV with that unmistakable "I'm not really texting" look about her - looked a bit closer, yes she's texting. Oh deary me. Just after I've tured off into the path there's a loud honking behind me. Yes, she's still texting and the cars in front of her have all moved off without her realising it. The man behind is "leaning" on his horn in exasperation. She looks up, looks in her mirror and makes that "Italian" hand in the air with all fingers spread gesture. Then tears off with a small chirp of tyre squeal - pathetic!

Having taken the medication home I decided the weather was so nice I should take advantage. I have two library books needing to be returned so stuck them in my rucksack and set off down the old railway line, now walkway, which leads to "the shore". Shortly before it ends up at the docks I take the exit path to Coburg street and back a hundred yards or so to the library. Takes about 20 minutes. A nice walk and away from the traffic- you do need to be wary of speeding cycles though and walk at the edges of the path if you don't want mowed down. Maybe all bikes could be manufactured so they make a "Noise" - like electric cars do? A well maintained bike is almost silent and can really catch you out so easily. We used to fix "lolly sticks" in the spokes when I was young - that would do nicely!

A quite quick visit to the library where I found out one of the staff I know quite well has had a fall and broken his wrist. Quite sore he tells me and is probably not going to heal too quickly. He's on "light duties" for the duration and making lots of cups of tea.

Quite quickly chose two new books and handed the old ones back and I'm out on the sidewalk again. Oh my, that's a hell of a noise and I know exactly what it is. As I look round a humongous SUV - I think a Jaecoo, could it be a Jaecoo7? I don't know my Jaecoos! Anyway piloted by a thoroughly "yuppie" young executive looking type about to pass me going at least 30mph - it's a 20 here - with a completely, flat as a pancake, O/S/R tyre. The road is straight and I watched it out of sight heading back the way I'm going. Ridiculous! Unbelievable anyone would do this, the noise was impossible to ignore. Why?

The rest of the walk home was quite uneventful including a diversion through Victoria park to take me away from the road. However quite a bit of the walk is on the pavement beside the Ferry road and I saw two more unmistakable cases of people texting in their cars. Why? probably because they know there are so few Police on the go these days that the chance of getting caught is close to zero?

Back home just before 13.00 hrs in time to see Mrs J off in Becky for her afternoon swim - she usually does 70 to 80 lengths, so really serious keep fit. and put me back home so I'm in for a set of ceramic coals being delivered to "re-coal" our coal effect gas fire. Now 1645 though and they still haven't arrived. Ah well, maybe tomorrow.

Just gone from amber to orange (think it’s supposed to be red)

I'm going to take a wild guess at lease/company car, free tyres and no spare on board.

Went to pop out this evening, got to the lights at the bottom of the road where I live & when I went to pull away the classic known Cento thing came into play where you hear the sound of plastic breaking & the clutch pedals stays on the floor 😂 I knew exactly what it was & it wasn't the cable as I put an upgraded one in when I changed the clutch at the start of the year so bumped it in gear on the starter to get it moving, got it back home & changed the quadrant on a cold freezing wintery northern night with only a torch as luckily I have spares & the car is needed tomorrow morning, so after about an hour tackling some very inaccessible spaces, thanks Fiat 😂 it was all done & the old girl is driving again
