Moving away from the stupid lights blinding pedestrians argument..... bosche they make me grumpy. One set of sparks, all fine except intermittent misfire next set, also bosche, same problem.... on further inspection all seemed to be fine, all sparking... changed for some denzo sparks and voila! Problem solved..... still dont know what the problem was.....

Well that reads to me like you make no consideration and drive on with your full beams on. If you slow down, then it cuts down your braking time and gives you more room for reactions.
However simply stick with your barging on with full beams and the peds safe as long as they shut their eyes.

Read it how you will, it is possibly poorly worded as I although I don't drive after a couple of drinks I have been known to use a keyboard...

Neway I'm done sure we could keep bouncing back and forth but you've made your position clear, you've never met me never been in my car while I'm driving and I'm pretty sure I've never passed you while you are running but if I did I promise you are in no danger.

.if someone is walking in my lane towards me on a road with no pavement then my actions are important if I do not see them and hold my line then both of us is going to have a very bad day..

and they are then night blinded unable to see due to the glare and trip on a pothole / lump/slip mud on the verge and fall into the carriage way into your path.................

Well as they are beautifully lit, I'm travelling at a reasonable speed for the situation and I've left them a lanes width I feel I could avoid them unless they are going to superman dive into the opposite lane. Also if they have a stalker walking behind them 200 yards away I can see him too..rather than hopefully spotting him in my dipped beams at about 60 yards out...

you are wasting your time trying to educate the ff cyclists don't you know that they are always right, they even have their own special highway code as our one only applies to everyone else, there highway code only has 1 rule that just says blame everyone else for every thing.
I don't think they spend much time on unlit roads

I have no idea what you mean dave, cyclists are the salt of the earth. I'm always saying they are the most conscientious people you'll ever meet. I know when I'm out running (on public footpaths and lit pavements or during the day as I don't believe in putting myself in harms way for no reason) that they always signal their arrival early and clearly, never pass at 25mph + millimetres from my elbow. I certainly have never been shouted at by a cyclist for being in the way whilst crossing at a pedestrian crossing whilst they were running a red light. Also the only time I nearly killed one was certainly not caused by them coming the wrong way down a one way street in the dark with no lights on. If that had happened then I now know the correct thing to do would have been to switch my lights off to save the poor dears eyes before he mounted my bonnet and shattered his unprotected skull.

I'll not hear a word said against them bad dave.

and runners never run out into traffic forcing cars to swerve and brake to avoid hitting them

they run in dark clothing with their back to traffic,

run in groups in the road 4-5 wide on club runs expecting cars to wait for them or cross the road in packs

or take over entire shared footpaths and cycle ways expecting anyone using them to move out their way so they dont get their white trainers muddy on the grass verge

some sadly never finish their run

What people fail to remember is the majority of good drivers/ motorcyclists / cyclists/ pedestrians they come across on a day to day basis

but they remember one nutter who does something silly

bit like some car drivers who have their own version highway code and Construction and use regs

who go out their way to dazzle other road users with illegal aftermarket lighting, drive dangerously, use defective untaxed / uninsured cars, drive with no licence, jump red lights ,speed , park illegally and think they own the road...

oh and 98% of my commute is on unlit rural roads I pass a road bike rider every morning with one of the big bright 900 lumin led headlamps on and he stands out well against other traffic to me doesn't blind me or cause me any issue but then i keep my windscreen clean ;)

I agree entirely, going to back to my original point packs of runners the odd one of which may decide not to wear reflective clothing are precisely why I would not dip my beams for pedestrians. By being nice to the 1st one I may miss someone else just up the road who I otherwise may have seen. I'd rather **** the odd person off than kill them.

I do not run on roads, I do not cycle on roads even in daylight, (You may remember I own and use a downhill bike) where I live surrounded by narrow roads with high hedges for me I feel it requires more trust in other road users than I have. Other people in my area think it is acceptable to walk in the dark on a national speed limit road, in fog, wearing black but that is their look out, and I shall do everything in my power to avoid them.

Well Dave. I'm heading off to work in about 20 minutes. Unless the sun is out. My commute will be 40 miles of unlit roads.
If you are going to preach,at least use the correct their.

I'll be riding home in a couple of hours. You get good and bad cyclists as much as good and bad drivers. I stick to the road traffic act no matter what conveyance I'm operating.

With that in mind the force five to six gusting force eight tail wind I'll be lucky to remain within the laws of physics. ;)

If you have a weeping wheel cylinder on a post millennium VAG take it to the scrap yard and leave it there. :bang: :bang: :bang:

Twenty minute job on a Fiat and I'm three hours in on my dads Skoda Fabia with no sign of being done before Easter 2018!
