"Like" seems to be the "wrong" button to click in this situation. Sorry to hear of your troubles my friend. Hoping all goes well for your operation. If it's any consolation, my damned back is not improving at all, been just over a week since this started. Probably going to have to go and try to get an appointment to see the "quack", wish me luck with that. Wondering if I'll get to see anyone in anything approaching a reasonable time?Well, poop. The fibula moved, so I'm tentatively going under the knife on Monday. I earned a plate and a bunch of extra screws and will be out of action for about 10 weeks.
Any chance a good osteopath in your area? The one who fixed my back was a small woman who gently found the area and corrected, as opposed to the one I had used years before, a large bloke who was more used to rugby player injuries and each time after leaving I felt worse as he was far from gentle."Like" seems to be the "wrong" button to click in this situation. Not at the break. The x-rays taken at the ER when I first effed up, showed the break with all parts happily aligned. Yesterday's x-rays showed the upper part of the fibula has moved away from the lower part. That explains the fresh pain.Is it not supposed to move?
This question has oft puzzled me, any Apple product can read and write Microsoft stuff straight out of the box with no added/required software. However, many products that run on MS, but not directly from MS, require the specific app/software/etc to run on IOS. Strangely, wehn I moved from a Motorola, android based, to iPhone, and the resulting transfer of all the app, calander, contacts etc, there were very few apps that required me to reload them via the AppStore. I’m far from a computer expert, but it did make me think we’re being ripped off or unnecessarily inconveniencedOn a different note Jock, how did you get on with your MES and what version, leads, operating system, etc.
I am considering trying it but my old iPad and a bluetooth used with the free version and similar on an old Panasonic Tough book with Windows 10, neither connect.
Not being a fan of Windows, I am wary of investing in a newish? Laptop for the purpose and I have no intention of buying a Mobile phone.![]()

Sorry to hear this. You need to keep still next time!!!!! John Wayne would just have used a couple of fencing planks and a torn shirt and he'd have been right by now.Well, poop. We are really terrible. No sympathy here. I hope poetic justice doesnt apply. As my wife and mother would say “can’t you walk it off”
I’ve done my penance, I tried ‘walking off’ my Achilles for two/three days on advice from wife that I’d “probably just a sprained ankle”. A woman in casualty said she’d done same and the pain was worse than childbirth! We are really terrible. No sympathy here. I hope poetic justice doesnt apply.

Funny that, I didn't experience any pain during childbirth, until I asked my wife if she fancied doing "anything whenI’ve done my penance, I tried ‘walking off’ my Achilles for two/three days on advice from wife that I’d “probably just a sprained ankle”. Hi Mike. How do I get on with it? I love it and it's let me do everything I've so far needed to do. There is stuff I've not done yet, like proxi alignment, but that's only because I've not yet needed to and I wish the situation regarding fuel trims was clearer but otherwise it's definitely been money well spent. On a different note Jock, how did you get on with your MES and what version, leads, operating system, etc.

Its a B nuisanec when you are both wounded at the same time. I really sympathise actually. My other half was still getting over her broken ankle when my kidney went off. It was very hard on her as the one partly recovered and your missus is in the same boat. That cancer treatment is very tiring, and I suppose the mental burden is really tough even though she may cover it well. Your leg must feel like the end. Its no good overdoing it though as it will be longer till you can help her much. I suppose even though its not your fault your in the hot seat. Not much help but really I hope its some moral support knowing you are not alone being in this bad position and we all hope its all resolved asap. Till then you will just have to soak it up and get the leg usable as its surely the best course so you can go back to looking after her. Main thing is keep smilingMy other half is spitting bullets at the moment and has all but said that I did this on purpose.Oh, effen well.
Thanks for that Jock, I was thinking along the lines of the Multiplex version although I see now it is £345 which is quite a price jump from the £234 you paid, which being now retired is harder to justify as not a legitimate business expense anymore, but easier than loads of different cables etc. and able to move across computers which given none of mine are ever new these days is one less concern.Hi Mike. To go back to the beginning, I bought VAG-COM - now VCDS - about 5 years before I bought my copy of MES because there were several VAG vehicles in the family fleet. VCDS is a very powerful program and can do much more with a VAG product then MES can with a Fiat. However it's all relevant to your knowledge and experience so I find I've only ever been able to use VAG-COM to a fraction of it's potential. However I have found it very useful for doing a whole vehicle scan before starting to work on the vehicle - so, for instance, I always do a whole vehicle scan before starting a service. Checking for trouble codes and erasing them. Looking at live data, driving actuators, and a whole host of other useful stuff. I've not dared to look at long coding though!
VCDS has a free, separate, generic OBD scanner embedded which I used on my younger boys Astra to great effect and it also worked on a couple of other makes I tried it on, so when we bought a newer Panda - Becky, bought 2017 (up till then the other Pandas had all been Mk1 models, which I'd always managed to trouble shoot with a multimeter and basic equipment, so didn't really need something like MES) I connected up the VCDS interface, selected the generic scanner and just about gave the poor wee thing a heart attack! She didn't like it at all, wouldn't communicate and gave her power steering the shakes - rapidly oscillated the steering wheel and emitted a loud growling noise! I thought I'd done some serious damage and was really bricking it as I backed out of the program! Once I'd closed it down and disconnected the interface I was very surprised, and extremely relieved to find she started up just like always, no warning lights displayed and she drove fine, Phew! Then my boy bought his 2012 Punto so I needed something to "speak" to both cars. By this time I'd been lurking around on the forum for a while and was aware of the many positive posts for Multiecuscan. I downloaded it and played about with the simulator for a while. Then I rang up Derek at Ilexa to get his opinion on it and see what he would sell me one for (I bought my copy of VAG-COM from him and he'd helped me a lot when I was first getting started with it). Oh dear, although he thought MES was probably what I was looking for, he didn't sell it.
So, started browsing around, looking at reviews, looking at you tube videos showing the system in operation and eventually ended up looking very carefully at the MES actual website: https://www.multiecuscan.net/ I was aware of Gendan and had seen some positive comments on the forum about them so decided to give them a ring. So glad I did. The chap who answered the phone, which may well have been Grant, was just so helpful, very patient with my "silly" questions and left me feeling very positive about them. I'm one of the world's great switherers and rang them at least 3 time with lots of questions all answered to my satisfaction and with not the slightest hint of impatience or annoyance from them. In the end, because I already had a windows latop (vista back then) We decided I'd just run it that way. Next question was how to connect? I'm very suspicious of wireless connection for this sort of thing because if connection is lost during operation then all sorts of mayhem can ensue - so wired it had to be! I seriously considered the multiple wire route because it's easy enough to do, the program gives you on screen prompts as to which leads you need to use and it's a relatively cheap option - you don't even need to buy all the leads, just the ones you need/want. However I'd become used, with VAG-COM, to doing a whole vehicle scan when I wanted to and going the multi wire route would mean selecting different leads to access all the control units and I just didn't like the idea of that. So, although I did really question as to whether I should spend the money, I eventually bought the Multiplex version. With this you can speak to any ECU on the vehicle with just the one interface, so handy! Another thing that's nice about the Multiplexed version is that the licence is tied to the interface so you can load the program into as many devices as you like and then just plug the interface in and go. the cheaper versions are licensed to the machine the program is installed on - it can be moved to another machine (laptop) but you need to get a code etc to do it, and I think the number of time you can do it is limited? The wire connection is via USB - don't think I mentioned that?
I bought from Gendan in early October, including the interface licence, for £234.95p. MES version 3.8 loaded which is what I'm still using, successfully, on our two Fiats to this day. I've not found any need to update it for these two cars but that option is always there if we bought a newer car. Grant at Gendan, tells me there's a workaround available/on the way for the later model (post 2018?) vehicles where the system blocks access. It costs to update MES but VAG-COM (VCDS) updates are free. Being a bit of an idiot where computers are concerned I initially thought the program would come on a disc - which was the way VAG-COM came to me and was very easy to install. However MES has to be downloaded on line Easy peasy in the end. The only bit I had trouble with was getting the interface to communicate with the laptop as the Multiplex version uses slightly different settings. I got help from Grant at Gendan and several forum members and withing a short while I was up and running.
By way of illustration here's my wee collection of stuff I use for "talking" to the cars:

On the left is my old Gunson Multimeter which still comes in useful, although i now have a much more modern auto ranging multimeter I tend to use when needed - can't do RPM etc though like the old Gunson! The interface on the right is the VCDS - it's a basic "HEX" jobbie so isn't going to speak to the new Scala very well (if at all) so I'm in the process of wondering about an update but as the car will be under warranty for the next 3 years I may hold off just now.
To the left of it is the, larger in size, CANtieCAR Multiecuscan interface (actually appears at the bottom of this picture):

As to how you'd get on with it? Well, in my opinion, considering it's very affordable price, It pretty much does everything the competent home mechanic can reasonably expect to want to do. It depends, of course, to a great extent on what you are bringing to the party by way of your knowledge of diagnosing vehicle problems. You're going to be pretty much at sea if you have no knowledge at all. However if you know what the basic output from an oxygen sensor should look like, Waveform from an ABS sensor when you spin a wheel, MAP sensor, etc, etc then you're going to find MES a real asset.
If you're not so hot on diagnostics I'd be happy to recommend some books I've found useful and have helped me progress from a very low base line starting point.
Yes, I did have a bit of a problem justifying the price to my "personal financial advisor" AKA Mrs J, but she came round in the end and it is so handy to have whole vehicle access in one shot. Thanks for that Jock, I was thinking along the lines of the Multiplex version although I see now it is £345 which is quite a price jump from the £234 you paid, which being now retired is harder to justify as not a legitimate business expense anymore, but easier than loads of different cables etc. and able to move across computers which given none of mine are ever new these days is one less concern.
I notice the multiplex is a bit bulky and when I used my friends Snap On tool the Blue tooth bit was a snug fit in the fusebox of the 2010 Doblo 263.
I will give it some more thought. All the best Mike![]()

Often a fail to connect is due to the Windows settings not talking slowly enough for the car to understand.
