What's made you grumpy today?

What's made you grumpy today?

People driving too close to my rear bumper... I know its one of those perennial motoring issues but it seems to be getting worse and I really really don't want anything to happen to my panda.

Mum's punto is going to see the mechanic tomorrow because we have charged the battery and checked fuses and the power steering is still not working :(

Some moron this morning on a push bike with flashing lights. The back was bad enough as it was flashing very brightly but the front one was so bright it was blinding as it burst, every few seconds, into the morning darkness with the intensity of a WW2 search light aimed directly at eye height. It's dangerous and illegal but will the police do anything, not a chance. Cyclists want consideration on the road? maybe they should show other road users some then.

It wasn't me.

My smaller light is low beam and the big one is my camera flash stuck on main beam. ;)

Cyclist need to consider and comply to the Road Traffic Act the same as anyone else. Separate low and high beam headlights were added to the Construction and Use Regulations in 1962, LED headlights are acceptable for road vehicles made after 2010.

The only time any road user is supposed to flash headlights or a single headlight is to make other road users aware of you. Constant and/or continuous flashing headlights are unlawful...

Front Lamp

One is required, showing a white light, positioned centrally or offside, up to 1500mm from the ground, aligned towards and visible from the front. If capable of emitting a steady light, it must be marked as conforming to BS6102/3 or an equivalent EC standard.

If capable of emitting only a flashing light, it must emit at least 4 candela.

Problem is, it is difficult and expensive to prosecute a cyclist. As they do not need a licence, there are no fixed penalty easy fines. Any issue requires a prosecution and a magistrate court appearance. Can't see any police or prosecutor going with that for a flashing light. Just knock them into the ditch, claiming you were blinded.

If a cyclist has a drivers licence and passed a theory test they can be prosecuted under the Road Traffic Act. All that has to be established is awareness of the law and even if say they don't...

Ignorance is no defense.

I have been stopped for speeding several times but...

If I get stopped said:
There is now law making it mandatory for cycles to have speedometers. I don't have one and therefore can not be held accountable for my velocity.

I have been stopped about my lights but the officer wanted to know where to get one for her bike. ;)

Having a driving license is irrelevant, you cannot get a conviction on it for a cycling offence, and as already mentioned ignorance is no excuse when flouting the law.

Cyclists with lights !
Jeeez
They'll be wearing helmets next ! Bloody inconsiderate idiots

Its not the fact they have lights that's the problem its the inconsiderate way they use them. Some people think just because cyclists are vulnerable they should flout the law, well I don't they are a menace that should be eradicated.

If your driving slow enough to notice a cyclist lights you need a faster car, it takes a split second to overtake a cyclist.
