Hello people,
I'm a bit confused (doesn't take much these days!) as to what type of engine I have in my 2000 Ducato Maxi Diesel Kon Tiki S.

The weight is 3850kg, I guess not far off 4 tonne

I know it's a 2.8, but don't know if it's Turbo or non turbo, it certainly drives like a non turbo (not that I've ever driven a turbo!) as it's a pig when going up hills etc., have to drop right down to a snails pace.

On the side of the van it has 2.8iDTT, someone told me that's indirect diesel injection turbo charged instead of direct turbocharged engine Tdi

Cheers

Hi Digger,
Thanks for getting back to me, sorry looks a bit technical to me!
Does that mean it's a non turbo? and if it is, does that explain why it's soooooo underpowered?
Cheers

You should have a 2.8ltr direct injection turbo engine. Should not be that slow, If it's that slow get it looked at.

Check the hose from intake maniford to the LDA on top of the pump, check turbo actuator isn't seized or disconnected from wastegate. Check hoses from turbo compressor to intercooler and intercooler to intake for loose clips, splits, leaks, check intercooler intact.

Could be just unreasonable expectations or attempting to drive it in too high a gear - its three times the weight of my car with 10% more power and 20% more torque,

hope you will forgive my suggestion the problem may be your driving style try changing gear earlier at higher revs its a high revving engine if you let the revs drop you will find yourself having to go down through the gears. so give it a try nothing to loose. jt

Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions, I've posted the same question on the Swift forum and apparently I'm not alone with this being a heavy vehicle, especially if it has a full tank of fuel, full water tank, 2 adults etc., etc., some people have fitted some sort of power chip, so will look into that.
Cheers

A lot of those chips are just a fancy resistor, you can accomplish the same thing for a few pence.

Sounds good, How do you do that then?

Wasn't suggesting you do it, just that those boxes are nonsense price for whats in them. Getting a specialist to swapping/grind the lda pin and increasing boost is the right way to go about it.

First of all I'd make sure you have no problems as I said check for boost leaks, check the hose to the lda etc.

If you're going the resistor route don't take the **** and set it to a really low value or you'll just smog everyone out of it.

Thanks for all the links etc, they look a bit to technical for me to do but if it ever stops raining I'll have a good look at things and check things (if I can find where they are!)
The vehicle has done just over a 100,000 motorway miles, but has been regularly serviced etc.
Cheers

With a 13 year old camper thats standing 10 months of the year things will seize pipes will perish etc. At that age id be replacing return lines, vacuum hoses, lda hose, turbo actuator hose without even looking at them its very annoying to be let down over a few pence worth of rubber hose
