Hey guys, getting my mk1 tinted this week for £110. Was wondering what tint looks good on a black punto? I was thinking about 80-80% tint. what is viability out of the windows like with tint?

Ok, go as dark as you like. Just remember that the front side windows, in front of the B pillar, must have 70% transmissivity of light to be legal. The windscreen must have 75%. I always reckon having the rear windows and rear windscreen darker than the front windows looks silly, but I know some don't agree!

I am only having the rear done so just curious on how dark should I get it to look good and not be too difficult to look out of

What colour is your car?

Scrub that, just spotted your avatar, so I'm guessing black.

I always reckon that heavy tints on black cars just makes them look like a van, so somewhere around the 50% should give you a good look without compromising visibility too much!

I'm with you on that one. It's not so bad if they're faded in, but having them too dark doesn't do the looks any favours.

I agree that 50% would be good.

My HGT is black with black tinted rear windows. I normally agree with the van comment but this one looks good. However, it doesn't only stop visible light - a GPS (hand held or phone) wont work from the back seat and mobile phone signals are weak.

Got pics mate? Booking the car in today in the afternoon

White, are your tints mirrored at all? Just that a normal tint should have no effect on radio waves at all, unless they're metallic.

The GPS probably doesn't work because it hasn't got line of sight to enough satellites. In the case of GPS the roof will definitely block the signal!

I got one what blocks 80% of the light

here are some pics car a bit filthy atm

30% on the front side windows, 25% on the windscreen.

So yeah, in legal terms 70% transmissivity on the sides and 75% on the windscreen.

For about the 6th time today!

The limits are:-

Windscreen, 75% minimum transmissivity
Front side windows, 70% minimum transmissivity
Rear windows, as dark as you like.

And they may not hassle you, but then again they might. If you're likely to come to the attention of the police, for example you're into cruising, or you have an "enthusiastic" driving style, then they will almost certainly pick up on it, and then you'll have to remove the tints and have wasted all that money!

I find the area you are driving in you probably tend to be pulled over or the condition of the car. My mate got pulled over loads of times in his corsa driving, I never had trouble with jobs once in my punto lol.

Just hoping now I got my rears done they don't pull me over for anything.

Btw must tints be declared?
