The other day I realised I was driving on a flat. I've since pumped it back up and it's somehow holding air this time, however, it's now fooked, It's not even round any more! I've taken it off and found this in the back of it:

So fair enough them that one's shagged!

Thing is, I've removed all my wheels so I can get them overhauled and found that one of my new tyres is falling apart all of it's own accord!

This tyre has tonnes of tread. Is this a design flaw? Or have I just driven over soemthing sharp?
It seems to be just falling apart like it's a re-tread or something! Just because it's a cheap Nankang tyre?

I've figured it need replacing anyway? So even though 2 tyres on my car are new, I need 3 new tyres, leaving one Nangkang left on there. Grr.
That makes me think I'd be better getting all 4 replaced so they all match? Or wont I notice the difference?

Now which tyres to replace them with is my next question. Definately not Nangkangs! And with rim protection seeing as I'm having my wheels repaired.
Which of these should I go for? :

ZZ3.jpg

Avon ZZ3 @ £55 each

ZE512.jpg

Falken ZE512 @ £59.60

rainsport1.jpg

Uniroyal Rainsport @ £69.70

PROXEST1-R.jpg

Or Toyo Proxes @ £70.80

Or any other recommendations. Basically I'm looking at anything cheap with Rim protection

I'm running rainsports at the moment and can't say a bad word about them. Great tyre in the dry and awesome grip in the damp/wet.

Tha Falkens in your post look nice and seem to have a lip which may help possible kerbing even if only slightly. Never tried them though.

I have some small scuffs on my alloys (only 6 or so months after having them reconditioned :() so rainsports won't really help you there.

Saying all that I'm tempted by TOYO proxies next time but mainly as a mate now supplies a whole BMW racing series with proxies and they love them, plus he can get them cheap for me.

Avon ZZ3 - I have them and they are really good on dry and wet surface. Plis they look nice :):)

I have 215/40/17 Hankook K104 XL 87Y Tyres on my Bravo. They also have rim protectors. Can't fault them at all, much better than the original Nankangs. They are £67 a corner or £58 a corner for 205/40/17. That includes free delivery.

re

the Falkens i had had rim protectors, but i woudl buy good year eagle f1's!

looking at your tyres now do you have a reciept? I would say you have hit something hard that just damaged the sidewall but if no mark on your alloys you may be able to argue it was a bad batch and get some money back?

Allan

They were from mytyres. Maybe I'l send them an email while I'm at it see if they can refund them ?! I'd be lucky though IR!

IMO Ben go for the falkens, I have them on bravobeastie and they give bags of grip and have a bit of a rim protector on them too.

I failed miserabley trying to break traction with them off some lights messing about and made the clutch slip instead :( LOL

i have the uniroyal rainsports and they are awesom in the wet and well above average in the dry. the falcans are great in the dry but are rubish in the wet.

the way you cut tyres like that is driving up curbs because you go up at an angle to stop you scratching the front of the wheel but the angle u go up on can catch the inside of the wheels. i have done it a couple of times downside of having low pro tyres lol.

I'm thinking it's a pothole then, not a curb. There's one that catches me out on the way to work, all the time! Bugger! May have to photograph it and write to the council

re

that is a good way of getting potholes filled!

my friend did similiar to his tyre when he caught an riased ironwork, just broke the sidewall a bit, tyre was still fine lol.

I sent photos of all the bits that are starting to peel away (there's actualy quite a few areas) and aparently they're gonna pick up the bad tyre and analyse it to see if the tyre is at fault. If so I get a refund. They'll probably say no, but at least they're looking at it!

I've decided to go for Falkens- I've just spoken to someone at Quikfit (while he was taking all my tyres off ready for my wheels to be resprayed - for a tenner!) and he said Avons may be good when they get up to temperature, but Falkens would be better all-round. (not that he knows anything- find my post about turbos!) Plus loads of Rim protection sounds good to me!

I used Toys Proxes on my 1st HGT 155 with no problems.

Goodyear Eagles are my choice now. A bit pricey, but worth it.

from my experience with the toyos i found they wore down very quickly, i would sugest the falkens
