just got some NGK v grooves for £10.49

do you think it makes an difference which ones u use or is it just a trick to rip us off with these £20 multielectrode ones etc.?

Bosch super 4.

You should not really use old style single electrode plugs on 16 valve engines. :)

Re: Re: what sparks u use?

Now you mention it!!!! what is the best spak plug for a 1.8 hlx??

Re: Re: Re: what sparks u use?

What are the best plugs to use for a HGT?

Re: Re: Re: Re: what sparks u use?

Bosch super 4's for everyone

Dill.

personally i just use the single electrode variety.

when you think about it, the spark plug fires when all the valves are shut. the valves dont have a clue as to how many valves are around them. its all hype from the manufacturers trying to persuade you of what you need,
and what you 'need' tends to be more expensive.
a bit like mobil 1 0w 40

thats my opinion, no doubt someone will rubbish it!

Re: Re: what sparks u use?

ignore that last comment, is sounds bad when i read it back.
does this forum have an edit feature, or will i have to read my postings before i click on respond?

use preview, if in doubt read the boxes as me mum says

cheers

Re: Re: Re: what sparks u use?

Actually....... it does make a slight difference.

The flame front in petrol engines is quite slow, with a normal plug you get a flame front spreading along the roof of the combustion chamber and then burning down the cylinder. With a multi electrode plug you get the flame front burning down and outwards giving slightly better pressure increase.

The difference is minimal but it is there.

Sparks

Tried Golden Lodge-not too good. Champion- fair performance. Changed to NGK- the best ever.

Re: Re: Re: Re: what sparks u use?

more electrodes don't mean more sparks.

the only advantage of a multielectrode plug is that they last longer. Well thats the impression i got from.

multipower100.jpg

"NGK Multi Power Spark Plugs feature multiple ground electrodes for extra-long life in a variety of applications.

Spark plugs wear out when the sharp edges of the ground electrode round off. Therefore, multiple ground electrodes provide additional surfaces for the spark to travel to, extending the plug's effective life.

Multi Power plugs are not for all applications, as they can tend to quench the spark, or hamper the ability of the flame to grow from the initial ignition point. However, the multiple ground electrode configuration can help alleviate a number of problems, including hard starting, excessive fouling or misfiring. They are also effective for vehicles with very high ignition system voltages and/or combustion chamber temperatures.

Typical applications for Multi Power spark plugs include factory turbocharged engines, Mazda rotary engines, and other high-compression type engines.

Remember that Multi Power spark plugs, or any other multiple electrode type spark plug, cannot provide more than one spark at a time. The primary purpose of the multiple electrode spark plug is to achieve greater spark plug durability and reliability over the life of the plug"

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: what sparks u use?

I love marketing ******** :)

The Rolls Royce Merlin and Griffen engines had multi electrode plugs. They were tweaked by hand until they sparked on all the electrodes at once. :) LONG job!!!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: what sparks u use?

i was told that the multi electrode ones tend to shield the flame kernal and that the only advantage you get is that they last longer and don't in any way give a more effective spark (less effective in most cases)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: what sparks u use?

Nope, they last as long as normal ones. True the flamefront is different with multis but thats the point. Its a bit like what splitfire tried to do with those overpriced lumps of cack.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: what sparks u use?

I've been using Brisk sparkplugs for the last 4 years. These have NO electrodes, hence:

MAXIMUM flame front!

Noticeable better throttle response and better fuel economy.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: what sparks u use?

they must have.
you got a website for them?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: what sparks u use?

Nope, that's the Premium LGS, i've been using the Premium ZC/ZS:

Cute! Like racing 2 stroke plugs!

How much?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: what sparks u use?

and we're not going to run into probs using these?
