ok.. so it turns out if i want my alarm and remote central locking to work i have to get a new key from fiat which is gona cost £150. so b4 i do that, i want to know what i'll get for my money.. do the indicators flash.? does it beep.? how good is the alarm.?

or.. do u think for around £300 i should get an aftermark alarm which does flash the indicators, have a beep, and have other nice little touched..

what do people think...?

any imput is great thanx..

i have a mk2 hgt and im very impressed with the alarm. the lights flash. it beeps. the motion sensors are very good and the bonnet/boot sensors are very good. i would recomend it as you wouldnt get the equivelent for 150 quid

so it def beeps and flashes..?

thats great.. i thought it would only flash at best....

ur sure ur sure.. :0)

upgrade it, at least u may be a reduction in insurance. i upgraded my standard one cos it was faulty and installed a TOAD alarm. nevr looked back. has plenty of functions and i can add a pager for £40 :)

i ask my insure about that but they said there would be no reduction for a cat 1 system
that was churchhil so i didnt think may other would either.. who are u with mate.?

AA but underwriters are norwich union. most decent insurers do give reduction for cat 1 . i used to be insurance broker 4 years back

Ade

even so, the reduction is going to be minimal surely. It definately wont be as much as the extra £150 to get a half decent cat 1 alarm.

well norwich union reduced my premium by £75 i think.. so its worth it that way.compared to standard alarm the features i gained were much better.... full closure windows, dual stage shock sensors, panic button, headlight flashes, lifetime gaurantee(spelling)glass breaking sensors + many more. u only get ultrasonics, voltage sensor with standard alarm

Ade

And you can have it installed now for around £220 all in, so the price is very good. Fiat wont give u lifetime warranty will they!

thank you for all of your input. i am still unsure as to whether to upgrade my alarm or just fix the one i have as standard. can someone please list the features and just what happens with the standard alarm so i may compare and contrast the two.

in all fairness i care more about the interaction features i.e what flashes and beeps, than i do about dual zone proximity sensor and such.

thanks.

the hgt alarm gives a long flash and long beep when activated.

when deactivated it gives two short beeps and flashes.

when door/boot/bonet is left open the long beep/ flash is followed by a short beep to warn you.

if you come back to your car and your alarm has gone off the interior alarm light lets you knpw.

Also, the fiat alarm will not cost you £150. I had a quote of about £300 so I opted for an after market one when my alarm on the HGT packed up.

I think the £150 is just for the keys and stuff so the HGT alarm can be operated.

They are very good alarms for a standard unit but not worth paying £300 when there are better out there on the market.

EDIT
Found my old post..
http://www.network54.com/Forum/15639/thread/1148152231/

Price I was quoted from fiat for the alarm back in May was.....

£272.81 inc VAT.

I will say it again
OUCH!!!!

it should bejust £150 as its only the key thats gone as far as i know. if however i get to fiat and they tell me its the whole unit, i will def go for an aftermarket one..

thank you everyone... thats all the info i needed.. cheers..

I have a HGT, when i first brought the car i rang my insurance and said im going to put cat 1 alarm and imobiliser on they said wouldnt bother, only knock off aprox £5 from my premium!
I wouldnt bother changing it, unless your planning on tricking it out with mods and bodykit, alloys and ICE etc to make it more attractive to a twoc'er!!
