General What is it?

Hi All I'm doing some work on a friend's car, it's a 1967/8 500F on the engine is stamped 126 so the question is ,is this a fiat 126 650cc engine. The starter motor is located further down on the right of the bell housing. Did this come from the factory with this engine?

Your friend has a '594cc' engine out of either a 500L or a Mk1 '126' sitting in the back of his car. You will find that it will give a sensible boost to the performance. What carb has the engine got? Fiat de-tuned the 500R engine as being the 500 was lighter than the 126, it was quicker than the 126. If memory serves me right, the 500L carb was a Weber IMB24. If you can lay your hands on a IMB28 (as used on the 652cc 126 models) this will also help with the performance.
