I had a 131 which didn't even have working washers :p You try getting parts for a 20 year old Fiat in Australia!

My brother had a Commer van when I was little and you had to pump that with your foot to get screen wash.

Also you could buy a new suit, have a short back and sides, buy something for the weekend, have a night at the cinema, buy a fish supper and still have change from ten bob. Those were the days. Bet Grimwau remembers. :D

Mick, you certainly know how to wring the neck of nostalgia. I always used to buy a new Isaac Asimov novel, what did you treat yourself to?

ps. sorry for ending the sentence with a preposition but what the heck, I want my dinner!

I had a hideous MAXI with a manual pump on the rustic wooden dash for the washers. You had to pump furiously just to get a little dribble. Dip switch for the lights was on the floor just for fun.

So, to what did I treat myself? A copy of Health and Efficiency and a bottle of Nurse McCready's surgical bruise lotion.

Funny I have something quite similar right now...

Hey guys,

Just a quick one... Have any of you had an issue whereby your dealer has said this is not covered under warranty, as it's a wear and tear item?

If your dealer says this then kindly tell them to "Go forth and multiply" :)

Okay then... in that case, Thames Motor Group Croydon are a travesty of a dealership! I managed to get Fiat involved who said they would pay for the parts, but that Thames would require a 30 minute labour charge.

I begrudgingly accepted as Fiat said the labour would be around £20.... and considering Thames had quoted me £186 to repair these and part of my rear bumped that is coming unstuck.

Now Thames call back to confirm that I have agreed to pay half hour labour at... wait for it... £48.50!

Think I'll call Fiat, tell them Thames are retarded, ask them to kindly point me in the direction of a dealer near myself who will do the whole job under warranty... It's only 4 months old!!!

Utter madness, never heard the like. My rear bumper wasn't fitted properly and my dealer fixed it no problem, as the the jet well tbh it was cheaper to buy one and have it sent than the petrol to get it done under warranty :)

Andrew Humberstone are you reading this?

Your dealers still suck (n)

Suggest you jump in your Fiat 500, drive the 1 mile from your office and kick some butts at Thames Fiat

Rob, quite right, that is disgusting behaviour, but don't expect anything from the man himself, all that talk about, "look out for a man in jeans and T-shirt wandering in to a Fiat dealership near you, it might be Andrew Humberstone" seems like hype.

Has anyone who works in a Fiat dealership actually seen him, does he really exist? :chin:

I wrote to him just before Christmas and not even a cursory acknowledgement. Mind you, if I had heard back it would probably been a standard response from the person who opens the mail and files it in the bin. (n)

I have he appeared on a giant video screen and decreed how he was the man to lead Fiat to an age of enlightenment.

Kinda reminded me of this.

I don't see how they can justify this as its clearly a warranty issue, the part obviously has a manufacturing defect, otherwise it would last longer. In 4 months worth of ownership, it is unlikely that the washer jets have had more than a couple of minutes use, not really much of an MTBF?

Mine did the same after 6 months and Grays garage in Warwick have just fixed them under warranty even though I didn't buy the car from them. They even offered to wash it while my wife waited.

The only issue was that I had to wait about 10 days for the parts to come in to stock - no wonder considering the amount of failures occurring?

he was on a Fiat magazine this time last year telling us how he was driving his 500 to all the dealers in the UK

whatever it isn't getting any better - needs a cultural change

Maybe he was using a 1.3 MJT and his DPF kept getting blocked so he wasn't able to stop, just had to keep on going 'til the light eventually went out, lol
