General What have you done for her/him recently?

Spent about an hour working on the red Selecta this afternoon. In this weather its not the best of practise to have no screen washers working.

Removed resiviur and drained it.

Removed pumps (skin my hands as I always seem to do recently working on Panda's :p) and discovered that front pump was covered in gunk, cleaned that one and rinsed out the resiviur.

Then replaced pumps and changed none return valve in the rear pannel for the rear screen washer as that was also blocked and US'ed.

So after tinkering for a bit, all was working again and we had clean screens. Then replaced the water in the resiviur with anti-freeze ready for the next cold snap.

Will upload a guide on changing rear screen none return valve in a bit (y)

Jon.

Hi Jon, is there a non-return valve in the front one? I ask because the 4x4 takes longer to come through than other 2 pandas as if it's not sealing right or missing?
cheers
mick

Hiya Mick, there isn't one for the front, but no reason why you couldn't fit one if its causing much of a problem.

Can you get inline ones then? or is that a Fiat special? It's instant on the CLX and the 1000s, but a second or two on the 4x4 (her Corsa much worse -takes ages!) - I expect it instant :p

Yep, can get in-line ones. Thats what is used for the rear (guide will be tomorrow, wrote it then page crashed, so not best happy at the mo :p ).

As I say Panda's don't normally have them fitted for the front, but I know that my Stilo does (as it blocked and I had to change it :bang:) and I think that most modern cars do.

Just looked on eBay, looks like Fiat dealer will be cheapest for the valve unless you know a motor factor that might have them (y)

Hey, I got two today - much better now!
New wiper blade fitted too and new oil pressure switch fitted on return home (in dark again) - looked an easy job... :p - suspected dodgy one since I got the 4x4 as the light was slow to go out... stopped working today - quick earth check proved warning lamp to be okay
(...if it still slow to go out - I got trouble!)
Also bought new thermostat for weekend fitting hopefully...

well washers didn't last long - now broke tube connection of winscreen washer motor :bang:
...should have done what Jon did and pump crud through 1st before fitting non return valve
Not only that but oil light kept coming on on tickover - need some better 10w-40 oil methinks... (did still have rad blanked off though - not done it since removed blanking)

Maybe it would be better to use 15w-40? It is what is recommended.

The 10w-40 is a second flush stage... (few hundred miles only) but it still should be 15w-40  - must have had yet another 'blonde moment' (or been influenced by the price!)
I'll drop it asap...
thanks for the reminder!
I'm sure the pumps just pull out of the washer reservoir... don't they?

Hi LWM, yes they do. (y)

Got the washers sorted this morning - that Q-Bond is good stuff - this time pumped all the crap out both front and back...
After lunch got 'pulled' by the strong arm... - on their system as a 4x4 (yeah it iS :p) and is it taxed? (yeah it IS :p) - but the officer was interested in the vehicle and wanted to know how much I paid for it :D
...only to find some few hrs later that I'm without panels lamps... which means no sides to rear  - after losing the top part of the switch, which flirted off rearwards (probably never to be seen again...), I managed to get 'em to stay on, without trying to drive with one hand, by wedging the Intermotor box that contained the oil pressure sw from yesterday into the recess... beginning to wish I'd let the traffic officer from earlier put a bid in...
on the good side the oil light stayed off today
Pandas - don't you just love 'em...
:slayer:

Do you need another motor?

Today I have changed the Driver and Passenger door locks over on the Red Selecta as the Drivers lock gave up the ghost yesterday :( (n).

So now can only lock/unlock passenger side from inside, but better it being the passenger side rather than the drivers side.

Motor's fine - stuck the outlet bit back on - so washer's are okay now - just come in from sorting the light switch, it's like a full-time job... what next I wonder?
I stripped it down and cleaned up the contacts - the plastic melts a bit along the side of the contact bars - I gave a bit more umph to the tiny springs that apply pressure to the 3 little brass buttons while I'd got it off, so hopefully it'll last for a year or two now...
yeah it's fiddly job to strip the barrels of the locks down - mine are a bit stiff on the 4x4 - could do with stripping down and regreasing - there's a set on eBay:

here

V5 came through today for 4x4 - it's had 2 previous owners, not one as the seller claimed!
cheers Jon
