General What car to get?? Panda vs 107

Im not even sure the frenchies edge it in terms of styling, maybe at the grand old age of 22 im finally becoming 'old' but i prefer the looks of the panda as well as how practical and great to drive they are. I parked next to a 107 in town today, and i couldn't believe the interior, so much exposed metal, and even for a small guy like me i wouldn't want to drive more than 4 yards in the space called a drivers seat. Whereas ive just done a 1000 road trip to and around scotland in the panda, as comfortable as i am in my bed. Would be a no contest for me.

the C1 etc is expensive for what it is, and dealers cant discount that much... however the C2 has massive discounts hence why people buy that instead. Thats what a dealer told me anyway, but at least you get a Toyota engine in a C1 and not some dodgy French one.
If I had to have any of them it would be the Aygo as it looks less toytown and the dealers are generally better too, as they have a good rep, unlike the Citroen/Pug ones. It should be a sub 5k car IMO.

Here's my totally non-technically related verdict, I hate peugeots so get a panda :D

Well put! Worth every single penny.....itll probably be the first car i ever pay for completely....cant see me wanting to get rid of it unless fiat get round to releasing that fabled turbo version;)

if your considering a 107 you should look at the daihatsu sirion, the 107/c1 and aygo all use the daihatsu 3 cylinder engine.my girlfriend has recently bought a sirion and the build quality is exceptional (built in japan),it is a much more practical car than the c1/aygo and 107,comes with loads of extras as standard 4x elec windows, air con, split folding rear seat,cd player etc at a very similar price to the above.people say spares /accessories are more expensive for japanese cars but the spares /accessories for the sirion are upto half the price of my panda parts.also the sirion comes with a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty and 3 years roadside assitance (daihatsu must be confident with their cars).definately worth considering.:)

Easy choice - the panda MJ. I test drove the Aygo, 107 and Panda, and the Panda is way better, as I use the motorway to get to work and some dispatch work as well, I chose the MJ. Like previous posts the Panda is actually larger and can accomodate 4 adults. As for the Diesel, I think it is only avaulable now in the C1, Toyota dropped it - ask them why. The Aygo was a hard ride, worse than the 107, and needed to be revved hard to get that 3 cyl engine working at its peak. The finish is somewhat lacking in the Aygo and 107 / C1 and I consider the Panda better finished. In the past I was one who would have passed on a Fiat, but having had a friend who had nothing but praise for his punto, and the Panda was the third car for me to look at, as any of the others did not fit my criteria fully the Panda was a surprise, I was happy with the test drive and even more happy now it's well run in. From the posts and second hand sales, it seems that there is a lot of happy MJ owners out there

hope this helps.

Old thread I know, but I came across it via a search engine whilst looking for comparisons of the Panda to the Citroen C1, so thought I'd post a few musings.

I'm currently in the same boat, looking for a new small economical but fun car after my 20 year old VW Scirocco was stolen and written off. I want something cheap to buy, run, tax and insure, but also something with a bit of character. This will be my first ever new car purchase.

I was considering a C1 or 107, but thought they might be too small for me, and have had my heart set on a Panda Dynamic Multijet - I spent hours playing with the configurator on the Fiat website (which is one of the best websites I've seen in ages).

Then I went to my local dealer and sat in one... and hated it. They are so narrow, the dash is so ugly, and the side support strut digs into your shoulder! Well, it did mine - I'm 6 foot tall and about average build, and I put the seat back so that I was comfortable with the peddles. But the support strut is so thick it seriously dug into my side. I was gutted, because I thought the Panda was the one for me - I didn't even bother taking it out for a test drive.

I then went to the Citroen showroom down the road, and took a look at the C1 - not having been close to one before they were bigger than I thought, and I liked the fun styling more - especially the interior. I took a test drive and really quite liked it. It was much more spacious for me, and fun to drive, though I thought it a bit noisy, and the gear stick and changing was pretty poor.

So I'm humming and haa-ing about a C1... or maybe a 107... but not an Aygo - they are much more ugly and fussy and more expensive, which is bizarre seeing as they are all the same car with the same Toyota designed engine made in the same Eastern European factory. I honestly can't see why anyone would go for the Aygo really - the French car designs are so much more appealing.

However, I'm now considering setting my sights a bit higher, taking a bigger loan and going for a Grande Punto 3 door... but I'm absolutely gutted I can't get the 1.3 Multijet in Exotic Red! So maybe I'll go for the 1.4 16v Active Sport, and to hell with the fuel economy and emmissions! Having a shiny red car is more important.

And now after reading all this praise for the Panda MJ here, I'm just wishing they made a 3 door version that I might fit into better.

I'm 6ft3 and am built like a brick **** house and I to found that the b-pillar caught my shoulder - however I don't car. The C1 and it's ilk are cheap as chips, the build quality is shocking for how much they cost - they should be at least £2000 cheaper imo. I test drove the Panda and they are refined, comfortable and great in the city. I ordered an Eleganza with ESP, 6 airbags, subwoofer and six speakers, steering wheel aduio controls, parking sensors and metallic paint and it should have cost £10480 - i'm paying £6900. No car would ever get a look in at this level and I genuinely love the Panda - only another month to wait!

I drove the 107 and found the engine horrible to listen too. It sounded like it was misfiring (I know its the 3 cyl characteristics). I'd agree that the car is in the same supermini class but comparing the two vehicles the Panda should be in a higher catogory. Feels far superior. I'd go for a Panda MJ... And have done! just waiting on it...

Now that I've bigged up the Panda Diesel i'm gonna **** on the Panda's chips and say check out the links below before deciding!

I'm sorry but there is no comparison, the Panda is streets ahead in terms of performance, inteligent design and 'only car' ability. I've changed form a high spec Skoda Fabia TDI and don't regret it for a minute.

I'm a six footer too. Not particularly lithe either, but I have no problems at all with Panda. In fact I found it vastly superior to the Grande Punto or the Bravo (largely to do with pedal placement and no footrest in Bravo). BUT, I specified the drivers seat height adjust (just a squab tilt really) and this allowed me as good a driving position as I've found in any car at any price. Without this the standard setup results in lumbar support being in the wrong place. I drive with the seat height at max and my head nearly touching roof: because that gives greatest comfort. I actually couldn't live with the standard seat. But I guess we're all different even if we are the same stature...

I'm 6'3" & 17+ stone & find the space superb, although I suspect a height adjustable drivers seat would be even better. My only gripe is the centre console rubs my left knee - although it's not as bad as an old style C-class Merc which I found undriveable due to the centre console jammed against the side of my calf. Perhaps I'm just odd shaped!

Cheers for all the feedback from the other big lads. I'm 6ft 1, 15 stone, size 11 feet, the rest is private ;)

I'm still gutted I didn't really like the Panda when I sat in it and the B pillar dug into my shoulder. I would've been well happy with a Multijet for the mega cheap prices you can get them online. I just felt really cramped, like I was in a coffin - I like a bit of space around me!

But anyway I've decided to probably not go for the C1 and will try out a Grande Punto.

I would really like to go for a Dynamic Sport 1.4i 16v model in Exotica Red, it's the only colour that up to now has grabbed me, and you can only get it in the Sport models, and I see no point in the standard 8V Active Sport. But I don't know if I can stretch to a loan for £11,350 (or even the £9K I could get it online for)

I've now just seen some proper pics of the cheapo basic Active White model, and think it looks almost as good as the red... and I can get it for less than £6000 - £600 cheaper than the C1!!! I have some reservations about the power of the 1.2 engine in such a big small car, but as long as it goes, is comfortable to drive and looks good, I might just be convinced.

Sorry, I'm rabbiting on about Puntos in the Panda forum! I think I should switch threads.

Discount!!!

You will easily gt a really good deal on the panda, not so much on the 107. Just push dealer hard for better price, and go in armed with internet searches. I got nearly £2000 off my 100hp, (brandnew, with mats!!). I had to push hard though, and the salesman hates you!

Good luck.
