General What are the rules/laws for towing a car?

I paid £30 to get my tipo loaded onto a flatbed, taken 30 miles and delivered to a garage.

No worries about the law, not worries about lights, no worries about brakes. Put it down to experience and remind him to have breakdown insurance if he's going to drive a VAG.

Sounds good to me. Does that come with an "On Tow" sign? I noticed the halfrauds one came with one.

Nope, 'On Tow' mag sign was a extra purchase. A few quid off of eBay

If you leave the ignition on in the towed car, you will have brake lights and indicators etc. You may drain the battery after time, but I assume its a short tow.

Yep, good point.

The beacons are th best thing to use to draw attention to the hazzard but still maintain functionality of both cars.

well if it saves someone piling into you when your towing / coupling/ uncoupling its worth while looking a prick....

could be worse mep could have HID's as well

Its all sorted now. It went well. Cheers for all the input. As it happens it wasnt the coil pack. Something more severe it seems. As you say serves him right for not buying Italian.

and part of the highway code, the only time you are allowed to use when towing is to warn cars behind of the hazard for a short time, as soon as they are aware of the hazard you should turn them off again

We got taught this for about two hours in training for the highways agency. Bin lorries are the one exeption, apparently its a requirement for them to have their beacons on at all time on the road.

We're on about hazzard warning lamps, not beacons

Its surprising how many vehciles brake the vehicle lighting regs with beacons, even when not lit up but still fitted to the vehicle!
