Technical Were do I find the engine number?

I am renovating the valves on my Panda 1.2 Dynamic from 2005.

When searching for valves, I found that some parts require the "Engine Number from:2533528" or "Engine Number to: 2533527".

Where do I find this Engine number?

as you stand in front of the car

the is a square lump sticking out to the left of the exhaust manifold


Its faintly laser etched its on the top. Will need cleaning to read


Its the safest if you have not had the car from new


Its also on a plate under the carpet in the boot left of the spare wheel which will show the original fitted engine

I seem unable to find it on the cylinder head. Is it on the Engine block or the Valve Cover?

I don't know what you posted but something went wrong, anyway the easiest place to look is at the log book, you will be able to compare this to the plate in the boot, which should match.

I have a picture of the plate in the trunk.

188A4000 = Engine type
Version = Sub version of the car (trim level I guess)
No for spares = ??? I have no idea.

its on the block. right at the join to the head


left hand side if facing the engine and on the top surface

I took some pictures and I can clearly see that I need to sand it. It is covered in a thick layer of rust :bang:
So I wonder if it will dissapear when i do it tomorow

Green scotch brite scouring pad work great most of the time.

other nylon scouring pads will work but I find scotch brite superior to supermarket brands. But here in the UK few places sell them now

Use the scouring pads. Don't sand it, or you may remove the etched number.

The engine number change was significant, where the cambelt teeth profile changed, so of course did the pulleys and water pump, and so did the tensioning from manual to semi-auto.
I think this is also where the oil filler cap changed from square (push fit) to round (rotate to lock/unlock).

I had a 05 square and 06 round oil filler but dont know what else was different between them.
