General Welcome to the recent influx of Spider owners!

Hi Ben

I'm trying to help a friend sell an older 124 Spider.

I saw your forum and wondered if you have anyone that you know might be interested, or have a 'For Sale' page that I can post some details up on?

The car's been laid up for quite a while so will have to be thought of as a 'project' I believe.

My own classic also has a couple of specialists who advertise for cars in any condition that they will either restore or re-cycle for key parts. Do you have such specialists who handle Fiats?

Many thanks
Dougray

I restored a 1970 Fiat Spider in the 1990's. Had to sell it just prior to a retirement move. On the lookout for a daily driver of that era. I still have a few parts!

I am renovating a 69 124. What do you have for parts /

Anyone have any experience with "Roadster Salon"?

I want to restore my fiat spider back to it's original glory.
It needs too much for me to do it, I don't have the equipment, nor the patients and time to do it myself!

If it was an American car at least I would have the patients...lol!

Roadster Salon puts out some great cars, but a hefty price tag! like...$50,000+
is it worth it, to turn mine into a "Brand New 1978 Fiat 124 Spider???

or do I buy a 2020 fiat spider for $32000.00 and have a "State of the Art" Vehicle?

Hello all,
My name is David and I recently bought a 1973 spider. The price was excellent & it was my bithday, so I figured-what the hell?
The gentleman I bought it from told me it was his 5th spider and that the car’s name is Bianca (from a previous owner). I was able to drive the car ~ 90 miles home without any really serious issues.
Since then, Bianca has left me on the side of the road 5 times, and I her, once. We have some fuel delivery issues to work out, as well as a full ignition, timing and carburetor tune up in our future, before we can go anywhere out of town together.
That said, the car is in overall excellent shape, and I am looking forward to the adventures we’ll have.

I just acquired a 1977 Spider. It's my first classic car (& first "fun" car of any kind). Maiden voyage was 107 miles yesterday and it ran great. Generally in good condition, but there's plenty about it in need of attention (largely cosmetic, I hope).

Hoping this forum can help steer me in the right direction as I'm sure I'll need some good advice along the way! Very excited for the journey!

They ran first time out for 19 years in the country (1966-1985) and the good news is you'll find parts easier for yours then my 2018. I'm waiting on a key fob from Hiroshima. Then have to get through customs because it's classified under Hazmat. (toxic) Thank whoever I ain't paying for it.

Sounds like a good score! Share some photos when you can

Hi guys and welcome to the forum.

As you can probably gather from looking through the site, the majority of our users are drivers of the newer models, however it had always been my dream to try and get the older model drives onboard.

Recently I've noticed a bit more traffic in both here and the X1/9 section and I'm hoping this can continue, it would be fascinating to learn more about the wonderful models of yesteryear.

So I encourage everyone to join up to the social group (listed just above the post listing you are looking at now) so we can see who is online and then try and get a nice bit of banter going both in here and the main forum.

Of course, remember to invite your friends too, post your car up in the https://www.fiatforum.com/members-motors/ forum and generally enjoy what we have to offer here :)

I hope to be speaking to some of you very soon!
Hello all.

My name is Eddie (or Ed). I'm an Irishman living and working in London. I have very recently bought a 1979 124 Spider 2000 CS2. It was imported to the UK from California in 1990 and has been in storage in a barn as part of a collection, it has never been registered or driven in the UK since being imported. I got it to start up with Easystart. but no fuel getting to the Carb and no water circulating. The fuel filter was clogged with brown sludge, I changed the filter and removed, cleaned the fuel pump then removed the fuel tank and cleaned out loads of dirt and rust then added a caustic soda solution. Someone had used plain water rather than proper coolant and all pipes/channels were clogged with limescale. When I removed the thermostat housing, it had disintegrated and Just crumbled in my hands! I'm guessing the water pump will be in a similar state. I will slowly be recommissioning the car and getting it running/driving. This forum is a fantastic source of information & advice and I'm sure that I will be on here a lot with loads of questions and queries.

I also have a 1983 X1/9 VS that I have owned since 2019.

Make sure to check the metal part of your fuel, and fuel return lines, that run thru the interior of your spider on the drivers side next to the door sill, under the carpet, with what you describe of the condition of things, there's a chance they could be rusted out like mine were...

I think it goes with the territory when starting out. I drove home about 50 miles when I bought mine, no issues other than some squeaky breaks and dry bushings. In the first few weeks, I looked for every excuse to take it out on the road but was heavily dependent on putting it on a trickle charger on every use otherwise I would drain the battery.

I stalled at a gas station once and was able to get a jump. Stalled halfway home, luckily in front of an auto parts store. Replaced the battery and I was off. About a month later, I could not start it after an evening out. Ended up changing the alternator for an Auto Ricambi 95 amp unit. I have been pushing it, not charging overnight as a test and no issues.

There are other bugs to sort out but that is part of why I bought it. Most fun you can have going 35 mph.
