Hi guys, I need some help. So my car was leaking, and I was told on 2 diagnostics that the welch plugs were rusted and hence the leaking. It has since been repaired, however, upon visiting the mechanics to fetch my car, it no longer wants to start properly. I have to press on the accelerator to get it to go. Furthermore, my clutch is no longer feeling the same. It's very low compared to before (I mean very low)...could these guys have messed up my gearbox or is it something they just need to adjust? This is over and above the car not starting properly...could they have messed up my Panda 100hp in its entirety??

Depending on where the plug(s) that you have had replaced are, they may have had to remove parts to get to them, some cases even the gearbox has to be pulled.
So yes there could be a link, might be worth talking to the garage and ask what they removed to access the areas that needed the repair.

the harder starting will probably sort its self out. The ECU will have been reset. A couple of short journeys normally sort this out.

I suspect the clutch will just need a bleed. Garage should sort this out for you. Make sure the carpet not stopping the pedal from full going down first though.

Thanks guys, the responses breed a sigh of relief. At least I have things to ask them and suggest. I'll let you know how it goes.

The low clutch pedal means the hydraulics need to be bled to remove air. It's a simple enough job but the battery might have to be removed to gain access.

If you are having that done by a garage, ask them to do a cylinder compression test to confirm the head gasket is ok.

So i fetched my car after they said they've done the bleeding of the clutch - not much difference. Drove the car, and i got stuck after trying to park. The gears got stuck whilst car was idling. Had to switch off, get it into neutral, started car again, and i couldn't select any gears. Switched the car off, placed it in reverse, attempted to start with clutch down, and the car would jump and refuse to start. I've experienced this with a friends Punto. He had to get his fixed coz it was damaged. I fear the garage isn't as professional as they make themselves out to be.?

The clutch is quite hard to bleed. I pump the pedal three times then hold it down while the bleed nipple is opened and closed. The pedal then has to be lifted (slowly) and pumped again for another bleed until the clutch is operating properly.

If that fails to work, you will need new master and slave cylinders. But generally they will be at end of life by the time the clutch is worn out.
