Morning all, Had my Multipla 3 weeks, drove 200 miles to Derby yesterday, a lovely drive.
I have been trying to work out the heating/ventilation controls, but I think there is a problem with the aircon.
I turn the temp knob to cool and press the aircon button ! the knob light comes on, the engine note changes and the compressor clicks, the fan starts blowing AND very hot air comes out the vents,
Turn the aircon off and the air returns to cool again ??

Any ideas at all please ?? why would hot air come out of the vents when the aircon is turned on

Re-gassing is a possibility but I've never heard of aircon working in reverse by heating the air.
Could be heating controls are ******ed - eliminate this by turning the aircon on when the car is cold, if the air comes out hot - then it's definitely the aircon, if it's cold and only gets hot when the car gets up to temp, then it's the heating controls.
Some Multi's have a defrost setting on the vent position dial, this automatically switches the aircon on, fan to max and heating to full, just wondering if this is somehow involved?

Thanks so far, Got a very nice neighbour who will regas it for me, I have made sure the knob is not on max defrost setting, and I will check it from cold (obvious really) Ive had aircon blow ambient before but never hot, I bet the controls are playing up and somehow the aircon switch turns on the max defrost.
I wasnt sure because my previous car (a volvo estate) was slightly weird in that when the aircon switch was lit up, the aircon was OFF, volvos are like that LOL, when the light is ON the function is OFF, but with the multipla when the light is ON then the function is on

OK, so I pushed the aircon button this morning with the engine cold, and just cool air came through the vents, So whats happening is when the engine is warm and aircon is switched on very hot air comes through the vents. something wrong with the heating controls then, is there a relay or switch or something that I might change ? or any suggestions to fix please.
(as mentioned earlier when aircon button is on, engine note changes and compressor clicks in)
is it possible that somehow the aircon button is kicking in the rapid defrost function
I have temp knob to cool, fanspeed set to auto, and direction knob set to fascia vents.

Difficult to suggest where to start - this is virgin territory AFAIC.
Do you have a Max Def setting on the direction knob and does this work as advised?
I'd be inclined to check the wiring associated with the aircon as I believe the hot air is controlled by a motorized flap and isn't mechanical, something is causing the flap to open (probably fully) when aircon is selected (Obviously).
Might be worth going through the handbook for fuses and pulling the one which controls this flap (assuming it doesn't also cover the aircon too), if you then select aircon and it doesn't put out hot air then at least you know it is an electrical fault?
