hi guys, first post, from east central scotland, first fiat, x1/9 1500 1980, it needs a hand brake cable nearside, got a haynes manual, dont say much about it in there, also speedo cable how do i go about replacing it, any help would be most welcome, thanks in advance.

Speedo cable is from what I have heard a tricky job as it goes in and out in between skins.
It may be possible to just replace the inner if only that has broken.

I am going to have to do mine at some point as the connection at the gearbox end has broken. I am going to try with string when pulling the old one out to ensure that I at least know where it is meant to go even if it doesn't help pulling the new one through.

Lots of patience I feel if it is a first time.

Keep in mind that most cars had the speedo cable in two pieces.
The main length runs the length of the cabin into the front luggage area, then there is a short cable that just goes through the front bulkhead into the dashboard. The idea is that you seperate the two so you can pull the dash out without having to disconnect the cable from the back which *is* a complete contortionists nightmare otherwise.
