What kind of amplifier do the original punto mk2 with subwoofer speakers need? does it matter if i buy a headunit with 4 * 60W? Does it mater if the speakers use less power than the headunit will supply? any help would be greatly appreciated! Cheers, Tom
I don't know...i'm just looking into changing my headunit, and wondering how to do this? i am looking into purchasing a alpine CDA-9835R (click here) and wondering if it is compatible with the speakers already in the car? how would i go about conecting the existing speakers to this headunit? Thanks for any help! Tom
the sub has built in amp so no need to worry about powering it. again dont really matter to much on the power i changed mine for an mp3 blaupnkt unit wich was 4x50 or 4x55 i belive.
as for changing the headunit its is quite easy. aftr you remove the unit you will see some connectors on the back of teh original stereo a large black one a large white one and a multi colured one. the multi colored one you just leave loose and do not connect up to your new stereo its only needed on teh factory fit units for the security code. the other 2 are the power block and the speaker block. now depending on what alpine units are like on the back you will either just plug them in or you will have to buy a wiring loom adaptor thing wich you can get from car audio places.
the only possible problem is that when i changed my stereo it worked fine but it did not turn off when you turned the ignition off. i had to swap 2 wires to do this.
oh and you will need a fascia adaptor they are £10.
one quick point on the wattage i am not sure but i thought i read somewere that if your stereo is 4x60 you will need a seperate power wire for it??? i may have imagined that lol i dont know maybe someone can confirm.
the punto sub requires no special wiring and no sub outs or pre outs or seperate amps to run it. the punto sub is an inline sub and receives the signals from the normal rear speakers wires wich are then amplified by the internal sub.
The Fish Dude...........what wire swapping did you do in order to get the new unit to turn off when the ignition is switched off. My is so frustrating when I neec to turn it on and off everytime.
the 4x60 thing. like i said i may have imagined it BUT i thought i read someware that due to it be 4x60 ie more power than most stereos4x50. that you need a dedicated live wire. now i am probbaly wrong and am pretty sure it would work fine.
also that is a meaty £££ stereo you planing on getting shouldnt cost hardly any more to get place to fit???
WIRE SWAPPPING
i do not not what stereo you have or if your stereo wiring is the same but if you have a manual it will probably say in the back. anway the standard fiat wiring contains 2 live +12v wires and 1 switchable live ( on off with ignition)
if you pull your stereo out and look at the bottom iso block of wires there are pins wholes
1234
5678
now the thick black wire is the earth that is PIN 8
the live wires are colured red white and red black and attached to pins 4 and 6
and the switchable live is coloured blue green and is attached to PIN 2
1) cut blue green switchable live 1 inch from block pin2
2) cut red black +12v wire in the corner 1 inch from block pin4
3) attach blue green wire to the the peice or red black sticking out of the block pin4
4) tape up the cut red black and the end of the blue green. as do not need the 2nd 12volt line.
that now allows my stereo to turn on and off with ignition.
for connecting wires i use bullet connectors. and i cut 1 inch from block so you have something to work with.
WARNING ths will probably work BUT my stereo is blaupunkt i have no idea your brand or if your pins are the same there should be something in the back of your manual saying so you can check first if you like.
cheers it's a pioneer mine. But I kinda know what I am doing so will just apply what you've done to my set-up. I just didn't know what wires or what sorta set-up alterations would allow the HU to turn off automatically when ignition is turned off
whats up tom ?? sorry was just explaining someone else question above.
normallty when you put new stereo in they dont turn on when you turn ignition offf you have to turn of ya self. but you can normally change wires as i said and it will turn off automatically
