When I pull back the windscreen lever absolutely nothing happens, no squirt, no sound, no wiperblade action. I bought this vehicle secondhand about 10 days ago. Everything else is great. I didn't think to test the windscreen washer and it's got an MOT till Jan 2014 (would this have failed the MOT if it didn't work at the time?) I have checked that there is screenwash in the bottle (but even so, it would still do something even if there was nothing coming out).

Can anyone give me any suggestions as to what it might be. Is there a fuse, for example?

Thanks.

There is a fuse, if you look on the underside of the Driver's 'glovebox', there's a key for the main fuse locations.
The fuses themselves are under the base of the glovebox, there are two latches at the back to open the base.
The wipers don't activate with the washers, they're on a totally separate circuit.
The rear one however does, when you push the stalk forwards.
I think the same motor runs both the front and rear washers, it just runs in opposite directions for each.

It wouldn't pass an MOT if the washers didn't work (or shouldn't).

You probably won't hear the washer motor due to it's location, try putting your ear to the open lid of the washer 'bottle' and have someone switch it.

The rear washer may take an age to operate. For a long time I thought my rear washer was broken - I just wasn't waiting long enough for the water to flow through the tubing from the washer bottle at the front to the nozzle at the back.

You may have a slow leak somewhere Chris.
Once 'primed', the rear washer line should stay filled almost indefinately.

I recently replaced my rear wiper assembly after more than a year of non-use (original mechanism siezed and motor burnt out).
It only took a second or two for the water to flow again.

I've modified mine to have an on-arm spray system...

I had a very similar problem on our multi a few weeks ago..
turned out the pipe work was completely blocked .. try as i might i couldn't unblock them even with an air compressor.....and i dont give easily

I ended up fitting new water pipes using some standard PU 6mm air pipe i had laying around the workshop....took much less time than trying to unblock the old pipes in the end

she's got a nice powerful squirt now
