Technical Wash Wipe

Hi Folks

Windscreen wash / wipe, I am assuming that when you pull the stalk back for the washer to throw water everywhere that the wipers would automatically sweep across a few times, the rear one does it but not the front

I have to push the stalk to the side to keep the wipers going, anybody any ideas?

According to my owners manual it's behaving as designed. And yes, it's weird considering the rear wiper does a proper wash/wipe

It's like that I'm afraid, it's fine if you have the digital dexterity of a concert Cello player .
It's pretty poor design really, and not having an intermittent setting for the rear one is just as bad .
You will get the hang of it though.

You can easily overcome the non intermittent rear wiper by fitting one of these:-

Do you use that in the wiper circuit (so you have only the intermittent setting, and lose the normal 'constant' setting), or have you wired it through an extra switch, so you can have either?

I have it wired in at the motor unit ( it was the most simple and easiest way to do it ) which means it is an intermittent wipe only. It doesn't interfere with the standard wash/wipe action.

At start-up it wipes 5 times and then wipes 3 times at regular intervals of 15 seconds perhaps not the best sequence for motorway driving in hard rain but as I do little of that these days it suits me and the wiper blades last much longer
Of course if I want an extra wipe I just switch it off and back on.

You can always adjust the sequence of number of wipes and interval times to that which you prefer.

I ended up getting that kit with the three settings (5, 10 & 15 second delays).
I'll probably wire it in series with the main on/off switch, and have the selector knob somewhere on the steering wheel housing.
I reckon the 15 second delay might be all-but useless, so I might make that one continuous instead, and rewire the connections so that it's the first selection option, i.e. before the 5sec delay.
I'm sure it'll be fun trying to find the wires I need at the front end...:bang:
