Off Topic Was this a recall on punto mk2 2003?

Ive just had mot completed , the most expensive part involved brake hose replacements

•Nearside Front Brake hose excessively deteriorated (3.6.B.4d)
•Offside Front Brake hose excessively deteriorated (3.6.B.4d)

which cost in total with labour £170.

Now I came into work the next day complaining and a friend of mine who used to have the same model thinks that he had a similar problem , however it was covered by a recall. If this is the case have I got a leg to stand on re getting a partial refund at least from Fiat.

Collegue isnt the sort of person to make this up so its either true or it was a slightly different issue.

Fiat barely like doing warranty work, it's going to be tough to get anything back from them on a 14 year old car which you would now expect to have some corrosion anyway.
I also note from the link above the cars covered by the recall where the mk1 models, where as yours will me a mk2 or mk2b as 2003 was a cross over for the facelift.

The rear brake pipes were a recall on the mk1, I remember the over joyed look of the front desk as I took an 11 year old 5 shades of pink slightly crusty one into a main agent.

It was something to do with how they'd been bent round the fuel tank.

Had the same on a MK2 both OS and NS, did it myself, isn't too difficult a job just a bit time consuming, takes about 3 hours for a home mechanic to do both sides, I reckon a garage could do it in 2, just gotta make sure you bleed them properly. The pipes are around £30 for a pair. Not sure if it is a common failing but they don't seem to be too robust.

Thanks , I thought £170 was a bit a steep to be honest but I use garage quite often and I've had a good few cars go through the mot with them without work needing doing and that includes my 37 year old Land Rover . Thanks for advice

i once took one of these in and boy the pipes were rotten to twigs where they went over the tank so i think it was due down to corrosion and no protection,this is why to this day and before i saw this car i always grease all brake pipes i think might start corroding (not rubber hoses though as grease rots them through)

Dont the flexi hoses have a natural oil content to help prevent them from rotting?
However with out salty salty roads, this dries that oil content out and then the rot / splitting starts?
