Now the oilcan red light is coming on intermittently
These oil sensors are manufactured down to a price and are not unknown to fail giving similar symptoms to yours. Is there any sign of oil around it which is definitely coming from it? Often they leak when failing. Scanning for stored codes is always a good idea, but in this case, I think the ECU will be taking the signal from the sensor to produce a code so may not be reliable. Checking for a loose connection or damage to the wire followed by replacing the sensor is probably not a bad place to start. If the problem persists then I'd be checking the actual oil pressure by screwing a pressure gauge into the hole the sensor fits in - or any other accessible place you can gain access to the oil galleries - and seeing what the actual pressure is with the engine running.

I'd tend not to drive it until I knew for sure it was just the sensor at fault though.

changed the oil and filter a.nd air filter and spark plugs and the sensor and light and warning is still on.the oil fillercap was removed with engine running and theres no oil inside

Not sure if this is a joke or badly worded ?

You won't see oil per se upstairs in the rocker box (where the oil fillercap usually is)

You've checked level with the dipstick right ?
