General warning light

my fiat ulysse 2004 has a yellow arrow with a symbol of a car inside pointing left on the dash any ideas

The warning light you have described means your cruise control is on when you drive, it will only work when you are travelling more than 40 mph, to turn it off you should see a short stalk below the indicator, in the centre of this stalk is a switch use this to turn it off.
