Re: re

How can you go 20V turbo without the torsion differential. Base HGTs themselves struggle with the power and torque!

I remember in my Autotrader recently there was a Corsa with a 270bhp 2.0 turbo and the advertiser/chavster says "it drives like a normal corsa!"

You will need somekind of RWD conversion and serious chassis mods otherwise all you'll have left is an expensive novelty.

re@

i dont know about 20vturbo but the 16vt has a visco drive thing which i'm told acts like a lsd to help put the power down.

my now 8v turbo is perfectly driveable in traffic etc have driven it all winter, admittably if you have a heavy foot it struggles to grip in the wet at the moment! but its not hard to just goa little easy?

Re: re@

He will need the gearbox from the 20V turbo with the torsen diff. If he does this he may be ok but i know that the chassis wont like it anyway. a bravo is a Tipo afterall. in fact so was the coupe but that was a miracle ;)

I have been in a Spec B legacy with 245bhp on tap and the driver was nailing it through roundabouts in 2nd/3rd at 50 - 60 mph or so in the wet. if he didnt have a strong chassis, some power through the rear wheels and a diff we'd likely be dead.

Motoring press always said the 20V turbo coupe only just copes with the power.

Re: re@

nailing it round roundabouts in the wet....
deserve what you get if that how you drive.

Re: re@

i wasnt driving unfortunately :(

the man who was not only does rally driving himself but through his subaru links has been driven quite fast in an Impreza WRC by a certain Colin McRae.

plus the car is capable enough to do this safely. i got into my HGT adterwards and through corners it felt awful...i have v.little confidence in it and its not exactly powerful.

HGT Conversion

What is the bhp on the conversion? Is it the same as the coupe?

re

i think he'd def be using the 20v turbo gearbox, or from a similiar italian car.

my brava is fine, comparing it to a legacy which has awd has rallying heritage, especiall the spec b legacy, is very unfair!

if you'd of said your bravo to a coupe that is a different story!

Re: re

@ allan wall:

yes i compared the bravo HGT to a Spec B legacy - therefore i compared one car to another. Well consider that the legacy is much heavier, corners FAR quicker and yet still has a much comfier ride. I dont think you dont realise how much of a difference there is between the two cars!

re

i know you did, but i think at the price a legacy is a lot more money than a bravo/a with a coupe lump in it!

and i've pulled away from scoobies in straight lines, but i knwo i'd never keep up with one round some twisty corners, they are totally different cars, its liek me comparing a bravo to a hilux and moaning it doesnt like off roading!

FAO: Thomas

Clerarly you have never seen my bravo.......

It is an expensvive novilty which come out of the garage on sunny days and for trips to shows in the UK and in Europe

I also enjoy doing engine converisons and feel the 20v turbo in to my bravo will not only complete it but will also keep me busy for a few weekends in late jan

One thing i'm certialy not is a chav buddy

Once the bravo is rolling I'm pretty sure It will be as quick as the Black R33 type M skyline I have just bought a well lol

I appreciate that in order to take full advantage of the coupe turbos power the bravo is probably one of the worst cars i could put the engine in to
Further more Clearly you have never driven a 2L turbo's corsa, if you had you wouldnt be so quick to take the mickey, I have put Several LETs in to corsa's and can assure you they are a seriously fun car to drive 200+ bhp to the front wheels can make for a lot of fun

"i wasnt driving unfortunately

ahh you wasnt driving and he's done some rally driving

Clearly that is a license to drive like an absolute nob on public roads so who's that chav son?

FAO: Allam

I'll be using the Coupe turbo gearbox thats with the engine Al,

Standard coupe gearbox effectivley m8

cheers for the link keith :)

Re: FAO: Allam

rob i know you spent a fortune on bits and bobs for your 1.6 lump, are you keeping it or selling it ?

i would love to get rid of my 1.4 and get the 1.6/1.8 but the 1.6 engine swop might be a better option, is it an easy swop to change the 1.4 for a 1.6 ?

i have never really considered this but i know your 1.6 was putting out nearly 130bhp wasent it ? certanly an improvement on mine also better mpg...just something that has just poped into my head i would be interested to know if it is a easy swop (well not easy, but you know what i mean) because i am at the stage with my bravo that i have had enough of putting my foot down and getting more noise as apposed to more power, lol

Re: FAO: Allam

when did i call you a chav ribzz?

oh and how much money roughly have you spent on your bravo?

Re: FAO: Allam

Yeah B just short of 130bhp in my 1.6,

would be a fairly straight forward swap too bud, I'm booked up with engine conversions until late Feb but could take it on for you after that?

my engine would defo be up for sale too

FAO@ Thomas

I got the impression you were aiming the 270bhp corsa comment at me likening it to the bravo 20v turbo conversion i am aboutm to start, if i've missed the point u were making i apologise

I've got about 20k in the bravo at the mo, once i've bought the 20vt lump and finished with perfomance parts for it I'd guess more like 23k this is mainly parts as i've done most of the work myself bar leather and exterior painting

Re: FAO@ Thomas

apology accepted Ribzz. good luck with the engine transplant anyway - i'd rather you than me!

but if you were to ask anyone else who the 'tit' is after quoting above that you have spent £20000 on your Fiat Bravo 1.6sx then i'd hope it wasnt me ;)

the end
