VW Golf GTI Mk2

Introduction

As some of you know already, I no longer own a Fiat.

There werent anymore I actually wanted to own again so I decided the only option was to go for a car that Ive wanted since I first started driving. A Golf GTI.

Bought it last week and have to say its a great car. Very quick, very torquey (being an 8v), yet amazingly economic. Averages at 38mpg and ive only used just under half a tank doing 200miles since buying it. Cant complain (y)

When I bought it, the paintwork was red, just a little dull. I polished the bonnet and roof by hand and they came up stunning so decided to buy a rotary polisher. Spent all day today cutting the paint and polishing it up. Its come up stunning. Interior is mint and the engine is top. Very smooth and no nasty rattles or noises :) Not bad for £716.

If anyone fancies a peek, ital be at the stoke on trent meet this month.
Would have put 2 light grill on but i left the 4 on just for Chris as he said he wanted one..

Only thing that dubmodder is missing really is the Caddy.. Theres one round near me in chocolate brown, slammed on ronal turbos, its absolutely gorgeous. Not as fast as a turbo cinq though, much to his annoyance :slayer:

how did i miss this thread?!

i love that gti mate (y)

its a few years since i last drove a mk2 gti, but i still remember the smile it puts on your face. they're so much fun.

remember you're not going fast enough round a corner until one back wheel lifts. :D

yah dub modder is alot of fun. Pretty much exactly what I did on it a few nights ago except i put on different wheels. Im keeping the 4 headlights as I think it looks better. Plus its what makes the GTI front stand apart from the normal fronts.

Not sure im gonna euro it really.. would look great with a nice set of wheels and lowered.. then just a tidy up with clear indicators etc and a spray of the spoiler and a respray of the hatch as theres a tiny bit of rust on it :)

Not as much as an 8v of the same size engine would have though. granted the 20v pulls extremely well over 4500k but under that, it lacks. its just the characteristics of that type of engine, same with a 16v. Im not insulting your car so no need to get defensive :) I just prefer something that doesnt need high reving to get the most out of it.

Personally I don't. I love the fact you can drive the HGT sedately most of the time knowing that I just have to change gear a little bit later if I want some fun. When I'm driving to work I just wanna chill. It's actually one of my favourite characteristis of FIATs and the HGT in particular.

However, I sooo want a MK2 GTi, again. That one is just sooooo nice. :)

Thats all it needs tbh mate, they look ace standard and don't need much to make them look the danglies.. All i'd add to it would possibly be some black g60 arches and some spacers, so easy and looks so  .

Incidently, this is the 2nd dull red car i seen you make go really red and shiny again, what products you use in what order??

mines a 16v but with the 9a corrado block mated to a tsr £800 ultimate head with kent cams, 4 branch tsr manifold and full magnex exhaust, the list is endless!! anyway i have no prob with low down torque, from the lights its awesome and sounds like a subaru (the head) beats lotus elise's and golf gti red I easy peasy!! in fact aint lost in nearly 3 years of ownership old school cool!!!! the only thing on my list is the crystal front lights and centre spots (not euro smooth) keep the original golf gti look! and want the eibach strut braces, maybe a new head unit as ive just fitted my infinity speakers. Ant!

Well to say im a little pleased with myself would be an understatment :D

Went out to halfords this morning to get a tax disk holder and saw a nice set of alloys on offer at £299.99. Ripspeed Turbines in 15" with 195/50 tyres. I thought it was a bargain and they really suit the golf imo. Multispokes with a nice little dish. Was tempted to buy there and then but left it.

Just convinced myself it was the right thing to do so I went back to buy them. Asked the guy on the ripspeed desk who said even though the wheels were there, i couldnt take them as they needed to order in the correct fitting kit first. I explained I wouldnt be able to buy them then as I dont live in the area anymore and wont be back for over a month. I asked if they could sell me the wheels without the kit so I could take them there and then. The guy agreed but couldnt find them on the system.

After 10 mins of searching through, he made a few phone calls and spoke to a bloke who said they would just have to sell them as seperate wheels which came to £45 per wheel (inc tyres).

The guy called over his supervisor and explained. THe supervisor made a phone call and then confirmed that I would indeed be getting a brand new set of wheels and tyres listed as £299.99 for £180.00!

WOOHOO :D

Anyway, now just gotta order a set of spigot rings and ill probs get some new bolts too. Hardly gonna cost me the £120 saving I made asking not to buy the fitting kit :p

Rear needs spacering out about 10mm to make it sit nicer in the arches. They dont rub or anything but i would prefer the stance if they were spaced out just a little more. The fronts sit perfect imo.

Apart from that, I love them  Just need the golf lowered now, which is what my next wage is going on :p
