VW Golf GTI Mk2

Introduction

As some of you know already, I no longer own a Fiat.

There werent anymore I actually wanted to own again so I decided the only option was to go for a car that Ive wanted since I first started driving. A Golf GTI.

Bought it last week and have to say its a great car. Very quick, very torquey (being an 8v), yet amazingly economic. Averages at 38mpg and ive only used just under half a tank doing 200miles since buying it. Cant complain (y)

When I bought it, the paintwork was red, just a little dull. I polished the bonnet and roof by hand and they came up stunning so decided to buy a rotary polisher. Spent all day today cutting the paint and polishing it up. Its come up stunning. Interior is mint and the engine is top. Very smooth and no nasty rattles or noises :) Not bad for £716.

If anyone fancies a peek, ital be at the stoke on trent meet this month.
You started growing pubic hairs yet?
lmfao mate.

Chris that is a beauty mate, if i was you id get the dark grey and red rear lights for it and maybe some G60 steelies as im tempted to go for them on my Mk2 Jetta 1.6.
Been looking at Mk1 Caddys and Cabbys all week as a project to do up and sell, theyre certainly worth some money for their age!
Mk2 Golfs/Jettas are so nice, theres a Black MK2 on my road, the guys moving to Aus this weekend i think, advertised for 1500, completely standard minter, but its got a Audi S3 1800 20v Turbo lump fitted so it does shift ;)

Heres a photoshop of what I aim to do with it. not too sure on the red bump strip though but ill see.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!

Get it back to standard in mint condition. The MK2 Golf GTi is, for my money, one of the best looking hot hatches to ever grace our roads. It makes my heart sink to see so many of the few that are left that are in any reasonable condition slammed to the ground on aftermarket alloys with colour coding where it shouldn't be. That one looks lush (although clearly not standard) but very subtle. Origional alloys a must but don't lower it. Sooooo jealous. Want one! :( ;)

Disagree - the ronal turbos and slammed improve an already gorgeous car, but the black needs to stay!

Nice car mate, is a nice example, always liked the MK2's nearly bought one few times, but then always ended up with R5GTT's or 205 1.9GTi's as they always felt more pointed and faster.

They are not nearly as heavy as you think, 920kgs makes it lighter than a Panda 100hp or my Suzuki Ignis Sport, so by today's standards its a light weight, and believe it or not was only 10kgs heavier than a 205 1.9GTi and 30kgs heavier than a 5GTT, and some 60kgs lighter than a Clio Williams!

I like the Ronal's and the different light clusters on the back, otherwise standard all the way mate and you got a very smart car. (y)

Yeah im not going ott with styling. Its staying standard looking as it looks great as is. I definatly want to lower it though, not massivly but just to make it look nice.

Ronals are probably my favourite wheels and seen as Ive now bought a car that can fit them and make them look good, its gonna be hard to deter me from getting them :p I would settle for a set of the standard GTI BBS 15s but want something different really.

Dare I suggest that if you really want to lower it that you go for the "uniform space between arch and tyre" approach as that would look really good.

BBS.........Hmmmmmmmmmmm...Oh mama! :D

lowered to the floor is the only way!!!!!!!
me mates got a mk2 gti,he uses it for drag racing and fun down country roads.
his brother has got a mk1,not as good as the one bellow tho:yum: :yum: :yum: :yum: :yum:

Imo the Jetta grill is done too much on Golfs, it does look nice but done to death by the golf boys.. G60 steelies or Ronals all the way!
