Very OT - computer virus queiry

Hi just wanted to ask if anyone had ever had w32.spybot.worm or one of its variants as its infected my laptop and screwed it right up! last time i ever try to download anything!!

all i wanted was photoshop to try and make a sig, boo hoo

anyway back to question, if anyone has ahd this virus/worm could they tell me if they got rid of it and how as the online help hasn't worked so far and now the laptop only works in safe mode!

cheers darren, the problem is i have got norton internet on the laptop!! tried what norton said but hasn't worked and now the laptop freezes when trying to start up.

i think this is gona be expencive

Not wanting to start an argument about stuff, but if you insist on downloading cracked warez, then you will come across this quite a lot. People know that a "free" copy is too tempting for most and so use this to feck you and your system up.

A bit of research up front always helps. That, and a good run through an anti virus program before running the executable.

Had you had a look at our list of useful programs at the top of the forum mainpage, you would've seen a link to a program called GiMP. This is a legitimately free piece of open source software that does the same as Photoshop. It's just as powerful and flexible, but best of all it is totally free. It's not even shareware.

And there is no chance of you downloading an infected file from there.

Ah well, we learn from our mistakes

tried that rob but had no luck, in other words im a dumb arse at things like that!

though that adobe might be better as it had easy to understand tutorials on the net.

will have to find some very kind person on here who i can e-mail a couple of pics and will make me one

w32.spybot.worm is very bad news as most antivirus's cant get rid of it, it will seem like ure computer is jst slow for a while then you will start having system error's and eventualy youre computer will start resetting itself when eventualy it wont turn on at all, it goes by may nammes but is more comonly known as ( WORM_RPCSDBOT ), the best course of action is a new hard drive pal as it isnt garrenteed to go after a format as it hide in the registry files aswell as youre main sectors

We use sophos at work and i have never failed to remove a virus following their instructions. .

but there are lots of different variations to the one you found so may not be exact?

got a collegue at work trying to sort it out now.

the problem with that virus is it attach's its self to vital registrey files and when deleted takes the registrey files with it leaving youre computer renderd useless but even when you reboot it comes back

ha ha sorted, of all the things it had attached to it chose norton antivirus, so my genius collegue at work got rid of norton which is no mean feat.

so here i am with another anti virus and no more downloading things either!

The best program iv used just for a bit of simple editing came free with one of those boll*** mini digital cameras for £15 ArcSoft Photoimpression i create a folder with some work i did for A-Level on Photbucket for y'all to check it out. or Coral Suite 12 or macromedia fireworks or sumink like that.... but Photshop does reign sumpreme must admit.
