Very lucky escape...

Well that's unfair, you don't know him and you don't know the circumstances. He is not a CHAV or a BOY RACER, he is a decent hard working bloke who's been through a lot recently, he drives very well most of the time.
Don't take any notice. There are a lot of people around here who just want to brand everyone a chav or crap driver or tosser or whatever. I'd have a good talk with him and just hammer home how important it is to judge the conditions better and drive a little bit slower. The roads round this part of the world don't exactly forgive little mistakes let alone big ones like this.

I myself had a couple of silly accidents when I was younger and it really did teach me a good lesson and I like to think I drive a lot safer these days.

WTF? why are people so quick to condemn people who have a crash?

its soooo easy, especially in the winter time, where you either have damp road salt (slippery); water (more slippery); or ice (most slippery)

he was lucky though!

Thanks for your support, some people just try and cause conflict when they don't even know the roads, conditions, driver ability or any of the circumstances. It happened near Penrhyndaedraeth near Porthmadog btw

I had a Baleno just like that one. Mine got crunched from the side too, only by a foreign student illegally driving his friend's Cavalier - he went straight through a 'stop' junction at around 35mph, straight into me. The short wheelbase of the Baleno and the strength of the sills probably saved my then girlfriend's life.
Good little car.

OP just shows why it pays not to go too fast eh? to skid twice and then carry enough energy to cause that kind of damage on what you describe as a sharp right hand corner... he must have been hammering it somewhat?

He wouldn't tell me his speed, but i agree, most trees don't budge an inch when you hit them, no matter how thin they are, but this one was uprooted. It's lucky the car hit with the sill, if he hit it side on, the car would have wrapped all the way round the tree and my mate would be.....not here anymore.

Re: Very Lucky Escape...

It's not always down to speed, most of time it's driver error and when it does happen, we just have to pray nothing is coming in the other direction.

It's always down to driver error. Speed doesn't kill and the roads aren't the place to rely on prayer! He's written off 3 cars now and if he hasn't realised a pattern forming, maybe it's time you took the initiative as his best friend and actively encouraged him to seek some professional/advanced driver training before he kills someone! Maybe sign up with him and treat it as a competition?

Yea thanks, happens a fair bit round here as you can imagine with such dangerous roads.

It ain't the roads which are dangerous!

Its almost 3 years ago that i had a similar accident, only with mine, it had major consequences. I lost control on a bend, tried to correct the car, over corrected it then went side on into a tree. The tree didn't budge. Luckily for me the impact was just behind me, it left a huge dent on the rear panel and even forced the rear axle out the other side.

I still have the pictures to remind me of how lucky i was to survive. If i really had my way though, i'd of rather died as well after knowing what i'd caused.

We all make mistakes mate :(

Its a lesson i had to learn the hard way. And i wouldn't wish it on anybody.
Agreed. My friend died in a motorbike accident about 4 and a half years ago. It was the tiniest of mistakes that got him killed about 200m from his house :( but life is cruel and at least it taught all of his friends a lesson. The scary thing is that if I'd just left work when I meant to that Friday he might still be alive today. The butterfly effect was very much in action that day.

No problem. People are just too quick to condemn people sometimes (myself included) but when it comes to life and death I think we should always show a bit of sympathy yet not lose sight of any lessons people may need to learn :)

i think most people have lost somebody in a road accident. Somebody i knew about a year ago had exactly the same crash as my friend did, skidded off an embankment and landed on a tree which also collapsed. The difference was, his car landed upside down on the tree and sadly he died instantly.

Nobody intends to crash, they are all "accidents" doesn't matter if you're doing 20 MPH or 100 MPH, but people still try and point the finger all the time. Lets face it, most people stick to the limits, does that stop people crashing? No. Most crashes probably happen in 30 MPH zones anyway, nobody should blame themselves for what happens.

There are no such thing as accidents as i heard a traffic cop say.....
What about the time I was with a Finnish friend driving down the road in Finland and a deer jumped out in front of us? Or what about the people who slide on split diesel? Or those who slide on black ice? Or.....

they arent allowed to call em accidents any more, just "incidents" or "collisions", they have to try and pin the blame on someone.

whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty?

Nah. Far better to be a big man and say "OMFG wat a chav LOL"

:yeahthat:

The coppers/insurance will pin the blame on someone usual one is traveling too fast for the conditions...

(don't get me wrong i have had a couple of near misses)

you don't set out to wreck your car or injure yourself/others

In my incident, it was just unfortunate that someone was at the wrong place at the wrong time. Fortunately for me, the police and courts dealt with me in a very professional manner and i wasn't treated like a criminal.

I just wish it never happened though.
