In reponse to another thread regarding the costs of road tax, I thought this link might be useful for those wondering how much it'll cost them.

Choose make, model and trim and it'll give the annual cost for tax from April 2008 to April 2010 - came in very useful when I was choosing a new car (went for the 1.9 JTD £120 this year and next, £125 in 2010)

Welcome to the site and good link (y)

I guess at least it's only rising around £10 to £15 for me, which ain't so bad, but can't believe what some other people will be paying. Plus it'll probably affect me badly when I get my next car as it'll have a much bigger engine and be older

if its older than 2001 then the tax class is based on engine size 1ltr - 1.5ltr and 1.6 and above, not Co2, so the highest it can be is £195;)

The other half desparately wanted a 1.3 diesel Yaris, but as they're only £35 for the year trying to find a used one for sale is like trying to find a sober student on a friday night!

have a look at the 1.3 multijet mk2b punto, also 35quid a year;) and a far better engine(y)

Panda JTD is what you need then..

or that, so thats two, id rather have either of them than the yaris, the yaris tbf, isnt as well built as you think, very flimsy for jap car:mad:

mate had a t-pot and it was very poorly built:mad:

Thank goodness for that. May well be a reason to get an older car then :D

Not 100% on what it'll be yet (short list of around 10, perhaps), but may well not be Italian :chin:

coupe 20v turbo plus(y)

or something with a massive big V8 thats sticks 2fingers up at the government(y)

the tax on cars registered before 2001 will go up to 200quid in 2009/10, its currently at £185 at the mo, not £195

The Coupe is tempting, got a good look at them at the Italian Day near St Andrews last month and they were indeed rather smart.

The short list changes often depending on Piston Heads :p BUT have thought about the following ten(ish) cars...

Alfa Romeo 156 GTA
BMW E30 M3
Fiat Stilo Schumacher GP
Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo
Ford Escort Cosworth
Honda DC5 Integra Type R
Honda EK9 Civic Type R
Honda S2000
Nissan S14a 200SX Touring
Subaru Impreza Turbo (late model Classic 4-door)
VW Mk1 Golf GTi
VW Corrado VR6 Storm

...eclectic selection, but they'll all be a heck of a lot more expensive to run than RGZ. I'm just after a fairly or really fast, performance car, but nothing too exotic. One of my mates for example is looking at Porsche 944s. That said, I wouldn't mind getting a Griffith 500 :slayer:

Of course, a lot of them will be affected by the new tax rules as many of them are >2001. That said, I wouldn't consider the tax the deciding factor, though it may influence it a little

2010 will probably be when I start "The Search" as that's when my finance starts to rap up.

Even the 1.9 JTD engines fitted to the Mark 2 Puntos will only be £95 a year on Tax if theyre registered after March 2001. Unfortunately mine is a 2000 model so it's gonna be over £200 a yr :bang:

As for the Yaris D4D, my mate had a Mini Diesel with that engine in it, and it was a bag of sh*t. Got to 68,000 miles and the head gasket went, so the car did too. It always sounded rough as hell right from when he got it at 20,000 miles.

Fiat JTD & Multijet FTW (y)

the d4-d engine aint the smoothest from new, i hate them, the jtd and mjet engines are one of if not the best in the business now, not the most refined, but definatly the better(y)
