I think its stupid. All of the research and developments in food and how it is produced and they go back to using gross leftovers. Veggie or not, I dont see why we need to have cows stomachs in our chocolate??

Same goes for boiled pig/cow skin and feet in sweets. Ah I just cant get my head around why they've done this...tho we know why, because as someone else rightly said, disposing of all that manky flesh is expensive, and well the mars/masterfoods fat cats just aren't fat enough.

And for the person that said there aren't enough vegetarians for these companies to give a toss...well what about pot noodles (not a great example of "wholesome food" but hey) they've been vegetarian for yrs.

Quorn, cauldron, realeat...all making big bucks from selling vegetarian food. Surely if our numbers were so small these companies couldnt continue and no one else would be making vegetarian lines. Even supermarkets have started making vegetarian versions of well loved foods. Surely, all these people wouldnt be wasting money if the demand wasnt there.

Each to their own. Im not bagging on at anyone who eats meat, go for it. But surely to god you can agree that stomachs in chocolate and boiled skin in sweets is just wrong man.

Also apparently Jews cant eat it either. Something about consuming meat and dairy within 4 hours of eachother..?

If you're not 'bagging', stop sensationalising and let us get on with eating our Mars bars :)

Offal etc. will only be thrown away anyway, mgiht as well be put to use. As long as the animal in question was treated humanely, I'm happy.

If im sensationalising by telling it like it is then well im not really sure what other way to put it. I never said meat eaters shouldn't eat mars, I said it was stupid to go back to old and gross methods when there is no need for it for the sake of more profit.

1. They're puttin that crap into the food when theres no real need for it, extra junk and other nasties. it was ok to sell before before they made it with cows stomachs so why change it now

2. They're not treated humanely.

Sorry, perhaps I picked the wrong word. I meant something more like preaching, but it didn't sound very nice. For want of a better word, no need to preach.

And how do you know how said animals were treated? I'd hope they were well treated, though I know that's not always the case :(

Mine was more of a rant about how I feel about it personally, not about how others should behave. My daughter eats chocolate and I hate the thought of her eating offal. shes allowed meat etc, anything she wants but its just the thought of waste meat going into perfectly good food. Ah I dunno. I didnt mean to preach, I hate people doing it to me, I was just expressing my opinion.

I cant explain this without sounding like im going off on one tho lol :bang: :)
Its fairly common knowledge that animals in slaughter houses suffer..for example, chickens get stunned..which doesnt always work, throats slit and feathers boiled off and they're still alive. So, they're boiled to death. Same for pigs, they get stunned and throats slit, ive seen a video where the poor thing is screaming and falls off the hook, flippin around the floor like a fish out of water would. gross. But yer, it is cruel, but I guess they see it as too expensive/time consuming to make sure they feel no pain/are treated well. Tons of the animals get crushed to death on the way to the slaughter house.

Im not gona post it on here but if you wana know more look at a video called meet your meat. I fully understand that some people will always eat meat. My bf and daughter eat meat. That is their choice. Fair enough. But we weren't talking about a plate of steak lol we were talkin about chocolate.

Again, I stress each to their own, but I still dont see the point in it being put in choccies

if you're going to "tell it like it is" at least be correct.

they aren't putting crap into the food, or manky flesh.

rennet will be used in the production of some chocolates. rennet is not crap, it is a natural complex of enzymes found in all mammal stomachs.
its the same stuff used to curdle milk when making whey. whey is used when making cheese, bread, crackers, pastry etc etc. they dont use stomachs, they only extract the enzymes. no stomach will be in the rennet, so it will not be in the chocolate. enzymes are just proteins, and easily seperated from the 'crap'.

as for sweets, gelatin is dried collagen hydrolysate. it is used in many things that veggies will take part in without even knowing (cosmetics are a good example, and developing photos). there is no manky flesh, no feet, no skin. where the collagen hydrolysate comes from is irrelevant because it is pure and contains no "manky flesh" or indeed anything at all apart from the collagen hydrolysate compound.

when vegetables are grown in manure it does not mean you are eating sh.it, even though many of the elements and compounds that make up the vegetable will be sourced directly from the elements and compounds in the manure.

similarly if collagen hydrolysate is extracted from animal waste it does not mean you are eating animal waste, you are eating collagen hydrolysate, nothing else. anyone who cant see the difference is ignoring facts to suit thier own beliefs.

also consider the fact that these animal waste products are still waste no matter what happens to them. it costs more to extract collagen hydrolysate or rennet than it does to dispose of animal waste, and the waste is still disposed of after extraction is complete, so it is definately not done to save on the cost of waste. it is done because there is a demand for the products and to waste them would be inefficient. if animals must die, we should at least aim to make the best use of them, and that includes extracting enzymes and compounds from the waste.

no one is eating offal when they eat chocolate, but i wonder what is eating your brain when you come up with these silly ideas. hippy propoganda or pure guess work and unfounded assumption? either way you should get the facts before you try to spread hippy myths.
