hi folks.

I had posted up a while ago about buying a 500 as a run about for my woman.

My mate owns a dealership selling nearly new cars and selling new Daihatsus. He has taken a 500 as a trade in against a Copen.

The car is an 09 plate with 6k on clock
1.2 Lounge in Silver
extras appear to be
auto air con
silver mirror caps
side moulding strips
front fogs

he is going to do me it for £8750 mates rates as its up on the fourcourt for a fair bit more.
Is this a good price for that car.
I just dont know if I should just get a brand new pop in the white with red seats that she really wants on ebay for £8000.
However my woman now also likes the silver car as it has the glass roof.

I have never seen another silver 500 in my area so it makes me think that its not a popular colour, or perhaps come resale it will be more desireable as there are less in that colour. Most are white in these parts, thats what we wanted as well.

Personally I don't like the silver and have only ever seen one other so I don't think it's a popular colour. The one thing I'd say though is that there's a difference between an uncommon colour and a desirable colour if you know what I mean. If it were me I'd go for the lounge though as for 8750 you're getting a lot more car for your money.

I like the silver, sit inside and the silver dash is really tasty.
On Autotrader at the moment there are a strange amount of 2008 1.4s with just 15 miles on them. Many in Punk grey and yellow. Odd that they have been hanging around all this time.

Get the reg no. and try webuyanycar.com for a valuation!
Probably in the £7700 region presently

Yeah its got the silver dash with the white plastics which I prefer as I think the black looks too dark.

You cant go by anycar.com price as they are just there to rob cars off desperate folk and they then make a good profit at them. As far as I can see my mate is doing me a good deal. He is offering a finance rate at less than my bank can as well.

Just need to decide if we go for a delivery miles pop in white or take the 8 month old lounge in silver which has extra toys in it. The Lounge I imagine will always be better for resale at the end of our ownership as its not a basic model.

I lost interest in this thread at this point....

Do expand as to why sir?
Its really a car for both of us but as she will be doing the commute through the city she will be driving it more as its more fuel efficient than our other car.
I am very fussy about my cars and as such do a fair bit of research before choosing which cars to go for. The 500 is a great little motor (we both like small cars) so its not like Im having a dig at the car.

The 500 is a great little car. My husband bought it for me, we live in the city and hard to park bigger cars.

My husband has his Porche but when we go into the city, we use mine. Your lady will love it. Go for it, we share both cars but I love my Bella.

Yeah been waying up the pros and cons of the 500 versus the other new small car we both like (new Fiesta) and the 500 just makes more sense due to the excellent residual values. Plus its the car that we both thought of first and its the one we keep getting drawn to.
Residuals are a big thing. Having been stung in the past big time with some M power BMWs I now like to buy cars that will keep the monies. Had great results with my previous Cooper Ss and John Cooper Works and as a result can afford to change them every 2 years.

My mother drives a Mini, it is a great car. We will be downsizing the Porche to a Mini, when we start a family. It is nice to change the car eveycouple of years, my father leases. He gets boried, it fits him perfectly that he can change ever year.

If someone is in possession of a brand new Pop, when there is a three month waiting list for such a car, why would they sell it for over £1000 less than list price on ebay?

Either they've got stupid skillz for business, or, as I suspect to be the case, too good to be true.

As for the used one, sounds like a good buy if you can get it.

because they have bought it under the scrappage scheme in order to sell it on and make a wee fast buck.
