have thought about the 1242 project bout as i said not that great with cars, wana work my way round this 1 then move on to sumthing like that if i dont go back to haven in the summer. how would i clear this gummy substance?

Change the fuel filter and have a look, and a smell of what is in the filter. You can get stuff to put in tanks to revitalise dead fuel, but check whats there first.

Just thought i would ask if you have put any new fuel in the car? I bought a car that was standing for about year and it had the same symtoms, turned out that the fuel had gone off and was no longer flammable. I drained and refilled the tank and off she went. I put a small amount of the old fuel on the bench and put a match to it and it wouldn't even light. Petrol seems to go off after a while believe it or not.

learnt today that the fuel had been run dry a while ago. the is no 3/4 of a tank full. the car will start perfect every time will run for about 2 mins then just cut out!
will check the fuel filter tommorrow hopefully.

spent most of today on it cleaning the interior, and trying to sort the engine problem out. took the injector out today and looked fine. so the problem isnt there. will have a look at the filter tommorow. is the filter under the rear seats?
oh found this wire too dont know where it should go was found behind the head light any ideas where it goes?

That'll be the wire for the electric adjustable headlights, so can just ignore that

ahh had a look at that today looks fairly new so thinking it mite have been replaced (its still shiney)lol.
got any other ideas as to what it may be? it ran for about 5 mins today then cut out so something must be blocking something but what?

loose wire, try wiggling the TDC wiring
how high will it rev? could be a melted catalyst. backpresuure makes the car cut out.
sounds more like lambda sensor or map sensor tho

Try removing fuel filler cap then start it up,what colour are the plugs?

the plugs are ok cleaned them the other day
and it will rev high until it wants to cut out then as they drop it wont rev at all

So if when it cuts out you have foot to floor do the revs go down with coughing and spluttering? definately sounds fuel/spark related from what you've put so far

yeah thats what happens but only happens after 2-5 mins.
but will start instanly after not problems
going to check these sensors, fuel cap, and a TDC what ever that is tommorrow
TDC sensor. Its on the block, timing end of the engine. (left) At the bottom, next to the crank pulley. Its a sensor that tells the ECU when the engine is at top dead centre, which is kind of handy for doing the igintion timing!

bottom right of the photo, you can see a wire hanging down. where it hangs from is the TDC sensor.
