We have a 1990 ducato camper and we are in the middle of an engine swap - (the old one blew a HG) everything is undone and ready for removal - BUT the drive shafts refuse to budge from the gearbox :mad: we have even reverted to brute force and they are still not moving - is there any help or advise anyone can offer Please??? ....its frustrating the hell out of us and we would like to get her up and running again.

We have done some awkward heavy jobs in the past on my old toyota celica gt4 - so we are not first timers by any stretch(albeit first timers on this engine) but I have to say none of the engine/box problems we have had have been like this one..............we are now well and truly at a loss :(:(

forgot to add that we have followed Peter Russek's guide to a t and still they won't budge :(

Hi,
sorry, I've read it but no ideas.
No circlips anywhere are there.
If all else fails can you drop the driveshafts at the wheel end, and at least see them better.

i thought they were just pushed in and held in place by a circlip.
they are designed so that they don't pop out in normal use.
have you seperated the stub axle bottom ball joints, as the driveshafts need to be pulles out a good 3 inches or so and the only way to do it is by swinging the stub axles.
once the axles are free use a small crowbar or similar between the gearbox and inner cv joint.
they do need a bit of force to pop them out.

the drive joint boot split it and it will slide out berings will come out put a rag on the floor o k

Cheers Mikey - we actually have the engine and box out on the floor.....we took it out from the bottom in desperation to see what was going on! The only thing we can think of is that the steel bearing has glued itself to the ally casting .........

Cheers!..........we haven't taken the boot off as it didn't seem to be holding them - but will give it a go (y)

i have a copy of the workshop manual and it states that the driveshafts are pushed in and held with circlips.
