Hi all

i have had a cluncking noise coming from my near side front wheel, i ashumed this was a CV joint but when i jacked the car up today i "wigglyed" the wheel from side to side and up and down and it moved ALOT!! as in if i had an MOT it would fail...

now the first things i believe it could be is that the nut in the middle (hub nut?) could be lose, but i basically stood on the bar and it didnt move?? so it isnt noticably lose? i am confused as to what this could be?

i do have grease coming out of the CV joint gaitor which could mean that that is shagged but it could mean that its just leaking grease...

would a worn cv join alolow alot of play at the wheel? its as if you have half done up your wheel nuts...

i will not be driving the car as it really is bad!

All help greatly appreciated...

Oh an also the drive shaft doesnt move at the engine end just at the wheel end...

probally bottom ball joint thats what i would say other option is Track Control Arm bushes nothing to drastic but still an mot fail but if you change ur TCA the bottom ball joint comes with it but do then as a pair and then get the tracking done

Does the whole front hub move? Brake and everything or just the wheel?

its not the lower ball joint, it has had new wishbones fitted recently (wasnt needed just throughing money at it!) ,, the hub and lower wishbone and stut are stantionary...but when i move the wheel the brake does move, but surly it must as the wheel is bolted through it... you can see the movement in the cv joint..

it really is like the larghe hub bolt is lose but it isnt..

but wouldnt it drive like a bag of ****? it still smooth?

so do i need a new one i presume? or will tightening up something tighten up on the wheel bearing?

thanks tom you are a star!

If the hub nut is tight then thats as far as it goes.

New bearing.
