Upload photos and avatar

I have just spent 15mins searching the archives for this but cant find so am going to ask once and for all, how do you link photos to your profile and to avatars?

I have a photobox account, have uploaded a photo to there and made the album public, but when I paste the URL in here all I get is one of the red cross boxes.

you have to use image brackets on you link if you get

you want to put (img) at the front of the link and (/img) at the back of the link - replace () with [] -ok -
