Hi all ive recently got my punto back and im looking at upgrading the brakes. Can anyone point me in the right direction for a decent and easy upgrade ? Thanks in advance

As Flisko said the 16v has bigger disks. I hear a lot of people swear by the improvements after upgrading brakes, shocks and springs etc etc. The main reason for the improvement is that the stock system was in poor condition, tired and in need of maintenance.
The stock system on these cars is very good and will easily lock the wheels on a non ABS 8V provided it is in good working order.
Does you last MoT/NCT give the brajke performance ? In good order 90% is achievable.
Whatever you put on there you cannot out brake the tyres.
The few cases I see with genuine improvement for road cars in where the car is used to tow heavy loads regularly. On long descents with a caravan brake fade is an issue and the extra heat dissipation from the larger disks helps.

As far as I know the 1.2 16v only has 240mm discs - only difference from 8v is that they're vented. The "cheapest"/best option is actually the calipers and carriers from the 1.9 JTD 80 - 257mm vented, however only 20mm thick unlike the 22mm of the 1.8 HGT. The price difference on the discs themselves are astounding. I run mine with EBC Greenstuff pads as well as braided lines from HEL. Works a charm - especially on a track!

mk2b 1.2 16v got 257mm discs but different caliper due to thickness, compared to hgt

Just keep the originals in good condition, a strip down, sliders greased, new caliper seals etc and everything will be fine. Don't forget Fiat spent a lot of time and money researching this for production so your small budget "upgrade" will do very little if anything. I did my 1.2 cab brakes and they are savage!

Thanks guys mine may just need an overhaul by the sounds of it i get a really stiff pedal abd not much braking but was looking at a 1.4 engine conversion so may upgrade at the same time

If you're fitting a 1.4 engine you probably should upgrade the brakes after all. Our 1.4 16V has 257mm discs and 203mm drums, so that's the stopping power that Fiat thinks it needs.

I want to replace the front disc brakes on my mk2b Sporting 1.4 16v. What is the size of the disc that I should be buying?

Driving style is 1 tjing to brake fade

Vented does help
But so does a correctly adjusted / working drums

Ive cooked a set and got terrible brake fade wheni was loaded and had little/no handbrake....
The heavy stop start meant I cooked the front and found out when I tried to stop for a roundabout....

If I get to upgrade ever ill jist fit 1.2 16v because been vented does help

My 1.2 16V cabrio doesn't have vented discs!

two of mine 1.2 16v one of them facelift, both had 257mm discs but not vented
was it just extra option to get vented?

hmmm
Stuck a 1.2 8v 2004 punto into ECP website

Yes there is
A 240mm solid (8v im assuming)
A 257mm Solid (??? dunno what for)
A 257mm Vented (Must be 16v 1.2 and 1.4's maybe?)#

257 vented would be my next step then
Slightly bigger = Slightly better power
Vented = Less chance of brake fade
