Hi guys
Has anyone experienced this? I have a stock standard Uno Mia 1100 (2003) and its acceleration has always been very lazy\modest. Overtaking on the highway is cumbersome and even dicey on single lane roads since its throttle response is not very responsive. Years ago I had another stock Mia 1100 and it was very light and snappy and acceleration was clean and immediate. Getting to 140km/h and beyond was childs play. With this model, 115km/h is a slog.

I’ve had it for 12 years now and it has never been snappy. The idle though, is nice and smooth with no hiccups or flat spots. I’m confident the jets are clean. But it accelerates like a bus. It will eventually get there but only after a lot of patience.

I have fiddled around with the timing and when it is on 0˚ is has no power whatsoever, totally useless. On 5˚ it is much more responsive but still only modest in acceleration with a few hiccups in 3rd gear. I have even had it at 8˚ with the same mediocre result.

Is there anything bad in setting the timing to 5˚ or 6˚ or 8˚? 0˚ is not an option. Is the difference between the two cars the carburetor? Am I missing something that can boost its acceleration?

I don’t know what to do anymore. I miss my old Uno....

Thank you.

0-100 kmh should be just under 15 seconds
Top speed 155kmh if you are lucky.

Are you in South Africa or Australia?

New air filter will help if current one is dirty.
Spark plugs/ht leads/distributor cap/rotor arm all good / renewed?

Fuel filter renewed?

Fuel pump pressure checked?

Set ignition timing correctly using a strobe light after disconnecting the vacuum advance tube from the distributor and making sure engine is turning at less than 1000rpm(slower the better) Reconnect tube after setting timing.

Check vacuum advance working.
Check centrifugal advance working.

Cylinder Compression check?

Use timing mark on flywheel not the marks on timing belt cover.

When was timing belt last changed? Was the belt changed correctly-lots of people get this wrong and get the valve timing slightly wrong.
Check valve timing.

UPDATE***

Thanks for the response.

I've set the timing to 11.5deg BTDC and the car is much more responsive and willing to accelerate. It pulls much better through all gears up to 4th. Problem is there are still faint hesitations and stutters as I push the pedal. The car is so eager to go but that is holding it back.

What should I do here, set the timing higher or lower?

**Also, I've noticed that the carb is Weber 32 TLF 27, which according to Haeyns, is used on the 999cc engines. The Mia is 1108cc. Is this a problem?

How do you mean "confirm"? I don't have a timing light.

Maybe the car is stuttering because it wants more fuel. Should I adjust the air\fuel mixture screw?

How can you set the timing accurately without a timing light?
There must be loads of people in Australia with timing lights ask around to borrow one.

No don't touch the fuel screw it only affects mixture at idle speed.

How about answering all the other questions asked to try and help you.

Is the distributor electronic or does it have points?
