I know that feeling ;)

However, I care. I like your neat and tidy central locking motor installation. I wonder where the welding is that you've done? Was it to fill-in the lock hole?

I did some welding today as well. Mine was a repair under the tailgate-opening lip, behind the bumper. It went pretty well now that I have proper gas and proper wire, so it's actually MIG and not that flux-cored mess. :)

Cheers alex :)
Ive just put some red stripes on my front bumper
to look like turbo :p
Check out the central locking, my dodgey welding to join the solenoid to the door lock as it kept falling out :( My rear arches are getting weled in about a week or so

Chas - oh and i looked at my front arch whihc has a logo on, it says something like metaflaet. ill get a pic

Dunc - My dad said its too much trouble to take thee windows out as i need to focus on finishin the car  and he said it will look more sporty with closed/fixed windows

Heres some pics of the arch, needs trimming to fit 100% at front but meh :D

I wonder if these are the arches you have:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....m=160250768770&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=006

They're a genuine Fiat accessory, but they don't have the sill edges to meet up with the sill covers. They're obviously designed to fit Unos that didn't come with the Turbo/ SX kit from new. Also they're mk1 arches, and as you can see on your picture the front edge of yours goes down too low to fit with the bumper. That's because the mk1 and mk2 bumpers are slightly different sizes heightwise, so to make them fit you will have to cut some off.

Regarding the rear windows, they're a piece of pi$$ to remove. Same principle as removing a windscreen, they just push out of the rubber seal. Once removed you will find that you have the hinge holes on the 'B' post that only need the plastic inserts for fitting hinged rear windows. You should also have the screw holes on the 'C' pillar for fitting the latch mechanism.

As long as Dunc gives you the inserts, hinge mechanism + screws and the window seal you're talking about a 20 minute job to swap them. And your dad is wrong, the sporty Unos all have opening rear quarters ;)

Also, thought you were gonna ask some questions about engine swaps?

the red 6 inerts for the rear screws are NOT easy to remove from the car!!!

IIR you have to bend and cut them out!!

I have a set from my scrapper and the opening rear windows but still ain't got round to fitting them in place of the non opening ones

Regards,
Louie.

They sound vaguely familiar. I forgot about those

BTW, I've never encountered a 3 door Uno with fixed rear windows! Even my base model 1986 45 FIRE had opening rears! I guess I was lucky ;)

haha yer chas those the arches i have :D
How did i miss those on ebay :p:eek:

Im in spain atm so havent had much chance of going online
The red stripes are just red stripe from halfords thinks it 7mm wide and then i sprayed laquer over them to make them shinnyyyy :D

and will only youd be asking me to make that sound lol might have to get an electric one ;)

I have to say, I wouldn't bother with the opening rear windows

I know perfectly those plastic screw thread-inserts that Louie mentioned - James and I stripped a bodyshell and those were the one thing we didn't bother to remove (those and the identical twins that hold the sunvisors in place).

I've never seen an Uno that didn't have opening rear windows, but realistically - when can you open them - maybe before you start off (from the tailgate) but otherwise you can't reach them unless you clamber in the back (and then you forget them, and it rains)... They seem to run the risk of leaks/rust underneath and the rubber seal against the glass tends to look uneven.

The BMW 330 coupe has little motors to push out its opening windows. I guess you could use a central-lock motor to do the job, but you would have to design an irreversible mechanism. Too-hard basket ;)

Good tip - I'll have a look for them :)

Ohhhhh yes you have, and you have been in one too.. you must have frogoten to look back when we went out in my car (y).

true - and they are alot harder to keep clean than the non openg ones.. all that green slime under the rubber :yuck:

It's late MK2 base thing I think.. I have never seen them on a mk1 either.

The Lancia Y10 Touring and I think the Y10 Turbo both had electric rear quarter windows that could be operated from the drivers seat. I reckon that as Fiat/ Lancia used a lot of similar parts/ platforms they could be adapted to fit a Uno quite easily. The problem is finding a Y10 Touring/ Turbo to take some from...

I like the rear opening quarter windows, as in the summer especially they aid throughflow ventilation and help keep the car cooler. But they are a pain to operate as Alex says - you have to clamber into the back each time! Then again, if I was loading stuff in the boot they are easy to operate with the rear hatch open ;) They do collect slime too as Louie says if not cleaned occasionally :yuck:

Oh the joys of Uno ownership :p

AGHHHH!!! stop putting him off changing them!!!!

lol

i NEED NON OPENING REAR WINDOWS! i need them as a template for poly carb ones and i need the rubbers too!

man, having opening rear windows is sooo much better (when ur not mounting a filler cap in a poly carb window!

im now contemplateing getting the polycarb windows made so they'll open but worried they wont seal well?? hmmm! F'ing opening windows lol
