Hi guys,

I've just bought a 1986 D reg 70SL with 16,000 miles. Its in staggeringly good condition...I'm after some exterior window seals for the 5 door. For some reason mine are 1cm short and this lets water into the door cavity that has caused some minor rust to the door bottoms.

Any help or anyone with some used ones appreciated.

Julian

Hello & welcome

The 70SL was always my favourite Uno because of the trim - have you got the brown tweedy trim (some were blue I seem to remember - my Dad's new 70SL came with one headrest the wrong colour! ).

If it's a good unmodified one & you get fed up of it later Benjyp10 give me a shout. I need another car like a hole in the head, but that wouldn't necessarily stop me! (y)

Re the door seals, I'm guessing you mean the ones at the base of the windows on the outside? These seem to shrink, so they are probably the correct ones - both the Panda's and Uno's often have short seals, and I can only guess they've shrunk over the past 20 odd years.

Ebay will be your best bet to find some, but it might take a bit of hunting. Ricambio might be able to help, but they won't be cheap if you go there. I wouldn't bother looking for used ones, as I think it will be a long wait, and then they will be the same size as your existing ones!

Any pictures of the beast? (y)

Thanks for the info. I'm going to try and find some new ones...as I'm new to this forum who's the supplier you mention?? Its a corker of an UNO and yes it has brown tweed trim....:)

You might want to look at the list of suppliers at the top of the Classic Panda section (one of the sticky threads at the top), as they are the sort of places which might be able to help. (y)

You could also ask a Fiat dealer. I got a boot seal for my mk1 Uno Selecta a few weeks ago. Not cheap, and had to be ordered from Italy, but it fitted perfectly and was worth the steep price - I was surprised they still had them!

You know where to find me if you get bored with that trim! ;)

Looks just like my silver 70SX, wheel trims etc - wonder what the difference is - maybe just the SX decals down the sides. Mine has ginger corduroy seats and door panels.

From memory it was trim mainly, plus the decals. I liked the SL as it had nice tweed upholstery and proper headrests. At the time I thought the corduroy seats and plastic headrests looked cheaper - no offence, I like the cord seats now (still prefer the SL fabric though, and still don't like the headrests allegedly introduced for safety but looked like cost saving). Edit: just remembered the SX also had front fog lights as standard, there were probably other bits which may come to me later - sad isn't it.....

I don't know about the '86 version but my 87' 70SL had both front and rear foglights (and sunroof). It was the same lovely silver/grey colour as the 86' pictured. Very jealous......

Its just had a new clutch and runs superbly. I've sourced some new window seals, which are genuine Fiat parts, so will attend to this at the weekend. Then full cavity wax and dinitrol the chassis...its a real gem
