Hello all,

Anyone got any experience of under seat subs? I'm wondering about ordering one of these to put under the seat in the 500:

http://www.bluespot.co.uk/car-audio.aspx/thb200a-speaker

Are they any good or can anyone recommend anything better? I've had a Blaupunkt 10 inch sub and amp running at 175 watts rms and couldn't fault it.

I'm not looking for trim rattling, glass breaking bass (been there, done that) and I don't want to put anything in my boot. My headunit has built in hi pass filters for the door speakers so I'll be able to acheive some good frequency seperation.

Thanks in advance :)

I'm thinking of an under seat unit also for the Bravo, just to compliment the speakers.

Had a boot mounted one in the Stilo, but fancy the boot space in the new car :p

Same thing for me. In my Fez I put some banana plug terminals on the trim so I could disconnect my sub in seconds if I needed to do a tip run or transport a friend's drum kit (thankfully he's got his own car now!).

I've had an amp under the passenger seat for 2 years and that never caused a problem at all. The back of the car was still perfectly usable!

i'd have a sub for those very rare occasions where i get to sudden urge to have my music louder. thing is, subs just take up so much space. that is why i sold my last one.

besides that, i dont really like music loud when i drive. i find it very off putting. when i am parked up though i sometimes liked it on, and for those times i do miss it.

that one is quite compact but i would like to hear how it sounds before i bought it :/

Subs are not about being loud though.

i know. they are the same as RF, you need a bigger (longer) aerial to get to lower frequencies. thats the job of the sub.
i was not questioning the speaker, more the resonance of the box its in. i dont think this sub would produce good low bass :/
my 10 inch bass tube really struggled to play the low stuff and that took up half the boot of a cinq.

I'm used to this, which I had I'm my Stilo

What's more important, Frequency response, or wattage

What would pack more punch and be more comparable to my old unit?

This at 900 watt peak

Or this at 300 watt peak?

This though has only half the peak power of the above, but twice the frequency response range, and I suspect is twice the price for a reason?

I'm really cap at speakers

50hz isn't very low :/
50hz is the same buzz you get when you touch the end of a jack plug when its plugged into a amplifier. you know when you put your finger on it and it buzzes. same frequency as AC power.
not really that good if you ask me... if 50 is its lowest, and 400 is its highest then somewhere in the middle will be the optimal resonance. and most songs with low frequency bass wont be heard well

if you ask me, you want real nice low frequency. say from 30/33Hz up. but the lower you go the bigger the sub has to be. lousy physics.. :(

its the same if your a radio ham. i want to work the lower frequencies but i am not allowed to have an aerial up the size that is needed to transmit that low.

heh idealy you want low (30Hz - 300Hz), low-mid (300Hz-1KHz), mid (1KHz-6KHz), high(6KHz-15KHz) and tweeters(15Khz+>) that way you'd get the full spectrum of audio.

check out wiki on it. interesting stuff!

in my opinion.. yes. ok the range is not very much but you will get that lovely low frequency bass.

for what i mean have a look at this video. (fast forward past the intro)

my pc system was able to play the full spectrum all the way down to 8Hz, at 8 Hz the speaker was moving but i could not hear it lol
my home system is a hacked 5.1 surround sound modded with 2 car amps. it has 2 subs one for real low (12 inch) and one for low/mid (8 inch)
gives that bass sweet spot all the way through.

Hmm some new stuff on me! I've always bought gear based on RMS power over frequency.

I like the look of the Focals under seat subs, there is one that even has an integrated 2 channel amp that looks quite cool.

My dilemna is I don't want to spend too much moolah on this (again), I also don't wanna start ripping apart a newish car for running hi power thick cable (again).

Hence I came across the Blaupunkt, but definitely will have see if I can hear one for real somewhere! Interesting to see the xcursion on that Youtube clip. My last Blaupunkt used to that as well... :tempt:

Anything that interferes with the safe operation of the seat mechanism, adjustment, seatbelt pretensioners, elevator and so on will be an M.O.T failure.

Having said that I used to have a Suzuki Wagon R that had a plastic shopping basket as part of the front passenger seat. I found that to be ideal for an eight inch sub. Much to the amusement of any female passengers. ;)

Hence why you don't fit it in a way that it'll interfere ;)

I have an under-seat Pioneer sub and it works a treat. Huge Improvement of sound even with standard speakers. There's also a remote where you can control the frequency and gain. Plus it doesn't interfere with the seat mechanism at all.

Both good points . :)

I had a 700 watt amp with 4 gauge (thick) wiring under my passenger seat and crossovers under the driver's in the Fiesta for over 2 years (see below). Went through 2 MOTs and never failed. Both items were held down with velcro and never budged!

However there was fair clearance between the items and the seat mech's and wiring snaked through the same tunnel as the seatbelt pretensioner wiring.

I'll have to see what space is like under the 500's seats and take it from there. If Fiat put their Interscope (or bose) subs under one of the front seats, its a good start! :)

Would it be possible to get some pics up?

Sure, the seat is pushed fully forward so I could take a photo, so it's quite visible but when it's pushed back to normal position you can't even see the sub. (y)

And here are the two cables, one contains all the speaker and live feed cables wrapped up in one and the other is a remote, I fed it through to the front where the void is in front of the cup holders.
