Anyone on here know If this tyre is legal or safe with the plug where it is on the photo? Too good a tyre to waste ImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1376338259.506318.jpg

Ye cheers mate Just thought I check here before going to fit it

assuming it's a 195 the answer is no, only allowed 60% over the full tread width.
the max repairable percentage width is 70% over the full tread and thats on a tire above 200 wide, ie 205/215/225 etc

so over the full tire you can only repair within 78mm, so if its closer than 58.5mm from the edge you can't repair it.
:(

1.9 on 205/45R17?
Measure from centre-line (as tread will be <205)
Outside of 70mm from centre-line more likely negative outcome.
Someone thought it rectifiable rather than reject.
But plug doesn’t look a neat job.

It's a 215 45 17 and the plug with a patch inside and the patch is on the flat bit if the tyre and its 26 mm from the outside of the wall some people I know say yes and some say no so all depends really I just want to know if its safe haha

Using the Etyres data.
Your tyre is 215 section, half the width is 107.5
Repairable width is 153, so half that is 76.5
107.5 - 76.5 = 31mm. So anything in the first 31mm from the edge is not legally repairable.

From this, it would appear that your repair is not legal to use on the road. Although as Caravadossi says, you need to measure out from the centre, not in from the edge.

Is your life worth this argument, or the cost of a tyre? If the patch lets go due to flexing, you could be upside down in a ditch, or bouncing off the oncoming truck. Bin it!
